Tonkin is now seeking suitably experienced candidates to join our East Coast Water team and apply their skills in the design and detailing of all aspects of our infrastructure projects for water utilities.
You will be joining a close-knit team that prides itself on professional, technical and collaborative excellence, while supporting Tonkin’s multidisciplinary approach that ensures our clients receive the best solutions.
About our Senior Water Engineer role
Joining our Water team as an experienced Senior Water Engineer, you will play an integral part in a team of highly skilled specialists who collectively develop water and wastewater infrastructure design solutions to our clients most complex problems.
Together with your exemplary teamwork, stakeholder management, and written and verbal communication skills, you will ideally possess some or all of the following to be successful in this role:
- Experience working in the Australian market, preferably 7+ years.
- Degree qualification in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or associated field.
- Strong working knowledge of current statutory requirements, and engineering and contract standards applicable in Queensland (additional knowledge in other states would also be beneficial).
- Chartered Engineering Status (CPEng) or the ability to obtain it within 12 months.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with, and lead, a range of engineering professionals in a team environment.
- Ability to successfully build and maintain positive internal relationships.
- Ability to develop external client relationships and key stakeholders and industry networks that may contribute to business growth.
- Demonstrated experience in applying industry standards, e.g. SEQ Code Water standards, WSA etc.
- Demonstrated experience in applying Quality Assurance, Risk Management, Safety in Design and design review processes for our projects.
- Experience in Water Supply and Sewerage design, including pipelines & pump stations. Large trunk infrastructure experience would be beneficial.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an eye for detail and a strong focus on the production of quality outputs.

Job location
This role is based at Tonkin’s Brisbane CBD office, though being located in Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast can be accommodated. Projects that you work on may take you all over Queensland, down into New South Wales, or over to South Australia!
