Overall Purpose:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our team. A Senior Accountant manages work at volume with technical agility. A high level of business services knowledge is required coupled with the ability to complete work efficiently, recognise issues of concern and opportunities as they arise and take steps to resolve or maximise those issues. Senior Accountants develop a higher level of taxation knowledge beyond basic compliance and apply this knowledge to their work. Senior Accountants are expected to have a higher level of commercial knowledge, be aware of the client’s structure and profile and approach their work in a way that recognises this structure. Finally, Senior Accountants are required to provide support and guidance to Graduates and Intermediate Accountants in the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, companies, trust and super funds within deadline and productivity targets
  • Demonstrated self-checking skills
  • Manage and allocate work for more junior members of the team
  • Interact directly with clients and devise solutions or deliver work to create the solution
  • Complete complex CGT calculations
  • Identify risk
  • Research and resolve issues associated with client work
  • Provide documentation to support returns
  • Complete Activity Statements
  • Complete financial statements including consolidated financial statements
  • Good understanding of source data and research capabilities
  • High level of financial reporting
  • Excellent understanding of income tax and able to develop multiple scenarios for tax planning purposes
  • High level of understanding of tax regimes applicable to client scenarios such a Division 7A, alienation of personal services income, non-commercial loss provisions, small business CGT concessions
  • Excellent understanding and application of GST law
  • Excellent application of capital gains tax knowledge
  • Understanding of Trust Law
  • Good understanding of various entity structures and the tax implications of each
  • Attend structured training events
  • Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
    • CPA or CA certification preferred or completing
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Australian Public Practice
    • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and accounting software
