Senior Engineering Manager
The Payments (Money Movement) team sits at the core of Pay’s platform, ensuring money moves reliably, securely and at scale. They operate three high-performing engineering squads responsible for building and maintaining the resilient transaction systems that power customers’ daily operations.
This role oversees the three squads within this tribe and ensures the delivery of high-quality, resilient transaction systems that power our customers’ daily operations.
As the Leader you will partner closely with Product to shape and execute the roadmap, while maintaining a deep focus on customer outcomes, system reliability, and team effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop multiple engineering squads within the Money Movement (Payments) tribe, fostering a high-performance and accountable culture
- Own delivery outcomes for the tribe, ensuring roadmap commitments are met with high quality, predictability, and speed
- Partner closely with Product Managers to define priorities, balance trade-offs, and ensure strong alignment between customer needs and engineering execution
- Drive the design and evolution of scalable, secure, and highly reliable payment systems that can support significant transaction volume growth
- Champion modern engineering practices, including AI-assisted development, to improve team productivity, code quality, and delivery velocity
- Establish and continuously improve engineering rituals, metrics, and operating cadence to make delivery more transparent and predictable
- Ensure strong operational excellence, including system reliability, observability, incident management, and post-incident learning
- Hire, mentor, and grow engineering talent, building a strong leadership bench within the tribe
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Security, Infrastructure and Data to meet regulatory and operational requirements
About You
- Technical skills: Strong background in building and scaling distributed systems, ideally in payments, fintech, or other high-throughput transactional domains
- Experience: 10+ years in software engineering, with 3+ years in engineering leadership managing multiple teams or squads
- Domain knowledge: Experience with payment systems, transaction processing, financial systems, or other high-reliability platforms
- Delivery leadership: Proven ability to deliver complex systems at pace while maintaining high standards of quality and reliability
- AI & modern practices: Demonstrated interest or experience in leveraging AI tools to improve engineering productivity and workflows
- Communication: Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to align engineering, product, and business priorities
- Customer mindset: Deep empathy for customers and a track record of building systems that solve real user problems
