Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council is inviting applications from permanent Kowanyama residents to join as a Centrelink Officer. This role delivers Department of Human Services services locally, acting as a key liaison between the Department and the Kowanyama community. Training in all services will be provided by the Department.

About the Role

Centrelink Officers provide assistance to the community by helping customers access payments, services, and self-service facilities. This includes:

  • Supporting customers with respect, courtesy, and professionalism
  • Checking and reviewing forms lodged by customers
  • Conducting proof of identity checks and acting as a verifier for Indigenous customers
  • Providing access to information products, publications, and forms
  • Responding to enquiries and liaising with the Department Smart Centre where needed
  • Maintaining accurate records for reporting purposes

This role requires excellent customer service, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Officers build strong relationships with community members, local organisations, and government agencies.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Ability to undertake and successfully complete Centrelink system training
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and online systems)
  • Police Clearance (or ability to obtain)
  • Current Driver’s Licence (desirable)
