The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Permanent Full-Time Clinical Nurse Consultant in Newcastle to provide comprehensive assessments, clinical interventions and specialist guidance to participants in the community with spinal cord injury and other neurological and physical disabilities. The role also contributes to education, clinical governance, and strengthening relationships with key healthcare providers and industry partners.
The position combines hands-on clinical service delivery, complex assessment and report writing, and clinical education for internal teams and external providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specialised community-based nursing services including continence assessments, wound care, and complex nursing supports.
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments and develop evidence-based care recommendations for individuals with spinal cord injuries and complex disabilities.
- Prepare high-quality clinical reports and documentation to support funding, equipment prescription, and ongoing care needs.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with prescribers, healthcare providers, suppliers, and professional bodies.
- Provide clinical education and training to internal staff and external providers to improve best practice care.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a clinician who combines strong clinical expertise with excellent communication and relationship-building skills. You will bring:
- Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant specialist field related to spinal cord injury.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in a community and/or hospital setting.
- Highly developed interpersonal a communication skills.
- Proven track record of clinical leadership and reporting.
- Ability to work independently and autonomously.
