An exciting opportunity to further develop our ecological presence in our Ecology team. We are looking for a motivated and experienced Senior Ecologist to join our team, working closely with our other disciplines including our Landscape & Arboricultural teams.

The Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in leading ecological projects, providing expert advice, supporting business development initiatives and helping to grow our ecological offering across the Midlands and beyond. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our vision of creating sustainable environments while progressing your career within a supportive and people-focused consultancy.

You will be involved with:

  • Project management and client liaison
  • Preliminary Ecological Appraisals
  • Ecological Impact Assessments
  • Habitats Regulations Assessments
  • Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments
  • Protected Species Surveys and Reporting
  • Protected Species Licensing and Mitigation Strategies
  • Mentoring and supporting junior members of the Ecology team
  • Business development and maintaining strong client relationships

You should be adept at scoping, designing and leading ecological surveys, building strong client relationships and managing projects from inception through to delivery. We’re looking for someone who enjoys supporting and developing others, takes pride in producing high-quality work and is enthusiastic about contributing to the continued growth of our Ecology team. No two days are the same. You’ll work on a diverse range of projects, collaborate with multiple disciplines and have the opportunity to make a tangible difference to the places and communities we help shape. 

What We’re Looking For

 

Essential

  • A degree (or higher) in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences or a related discipline
  • Membership of CIEEM, ideally working towards Chartership
  • Strong understanding of UK ecological legislation, planning policy and best practice guidance
  • Experience undertaking UK Habitat Classification surveys and a range of protected species surveys
  • Experience liaising with clients, local planning authorities and statutory consultees
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong report writing, reviewing and quality assurance skills
  • Excellent project management skills and experience delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
  • A proven ability to develop client relationships and contribute to business development activities
  • An approach that aligns with our values and collaborative ways of working
  • A full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • One or more Protected Species Licences
  • Chartered Ecologist status or progression towards Chartership
  • Experience securing and managing your own projects and client portfolio
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary consultancy environment

Salary: £40,960 – £48,450

Pay points reflect our 2026 salary banding. All pay points are reviewed annually. We’re passionate about pay transparency – Tyler Grange Pay Transparency.

Location: Birmingham. We operate a hybrid working model with an expectation of 2 days a week in the office. This can include site-based work.
