Dales Marine Services are a well-established and successful local and national Ship Repair, Fabrication and Engineering service provider for the off and on shore oil industry. Due to continued growth, expansion, and long-term contracts we are looking to add to our skilled team of employees at our dry dock, engineering, and fabrication facilities across Scotland.
Steelworkers (Platers) are required to plan, prepare and undertake vessel repair and fabrication projects to agreed timescales.
During their daily duties they will be required to cut and shape heavy sheet metal. This is used in the construction of frames, handrails, large structures such as tanks and frames, on and offshore modules, vessel mobilisation projects and structural repairs to vessels.
Steelworkers should ideally possess an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or similar fabrication apprenticeship qualification, or have at least 5 years’ trade experience in a similar role or industry.
Job skills and requirements would include but not be limited to:
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings
- Marking out lines for cutting, drilling or shaping plate for fabrication projects
- Operating equipment such as mechanical saws, gas burners, overhead cranes, forklifts and MEWPs
- Shaping and forming materials using large machines such as rollers and presses
- Dressing and shaping cut steel using grinders and other vibratory machinery
- Drilling or punching holes in metal or cutting with gas burners
- Moving plates into position for assembly using lifting equipment, overhead cranes and hoists
- Assembling parts into structures, usually by welding or bolting
- Finishing assemblies to required client standards
The working environment can be noisy and hot, with some work carried out at height on scaffolding or MEWPs. Protective equipment must be worn at all times and may include local exhaust ventilation, face masks, boots, coveralls, hard hats, gloves, safety glasses/goggles, screens/visors and hearing protection.
They will assist in the implementation of the quality systems by following the Company Policies and Procedures and help to implement and maintain health, safety and environmental standards, working safely at all times to ensure the health and wellbeing of themselves and their fellow workers.
Key Responsibilities
Including but not limited to:
- Working to the highest standards at all times
- Reporting progress of work tasks to the Operations Manager, Trade Foremen and Site Supervisors
- Working alongside and cooperating with other personnel as required by the task
- Following all permit-to-work requirements
- Complying with all PPE and RPE requirements
- Mentoring and assisting in the training and development of apprentices
- Maintaining good customer relations
- Keeping work areas clean and tidy
- Attending required company and industry training courses
- Following company policies, procedures, emergency procedures, risk assessments and method statements
- Assisting with the preparation of risk assessments and method statements
- Participating in toolbox talks and safety meetings
- Ensuring quality standards are met in line with company policies
- Attending occupational health checks and complying with any requirements
- Promoting a safe working culture and adhering to the company “Stop the Job” policy
- Supporting the company’s zero-accident and zero-waste-to-landfill objectives
- Assisting in the implementation and upkeep of company ISO standards
