Technical Sales Representative

As a Technical Sales Representative, you will develop sales of Chiltern Connections’ electronic protection materials and services, including conformal coating, potting and encapsulation. You will work with new and existing B2B customers to understand their applications and recommend suitable products or services.

You will manage enquiries and opportunities from first contact through quotation and follow-up, working with technical, operations and sales colleagues to deliver accurate proposals and a good customer experience. The role includes proactive business development and customer visits as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with existing customers, identifying opportunities to grow accounts and support their future requirements.
  • Identify and approach prospective customers in relevant electronics and manufacturing markets; generate and qualify new business opportunities.
  • Discuss customer applications, specifications, quantities, timescales and technical requirements; ask the right questions before recommending a solution.
  • Promote the company’s distribution products and subcontract services, including conformal coating, potting and encapsulation, within the scope of training and technical approval.
  • Prepare and follow up quotations, checking pricing, margin, stock, lead times and capacity with the relevant teams before making commitments to customers.
  • Work with technical and production colleagues on samples, trials, feasibility reviews and customer specifications, escalating specialist questions when needed.
  • Manage an active sales pipeline in Monday.com CRM, keeping contacts, activities, opportunities, next steps and forecasts accurate and up to date.
  • Coordinate with Sales Administration, Operations and Purchasing to support order handover, delivery expectations and resolution of customer or supply issues.
  • Arrange and attend customer meetings and site visits, and represent the company professionally at relevant events when required.
  • Provide customers with current technical information, including datasheets and safety information, and ensure any product suitability claims are properly supported.
  • Keep informed about supplier developments, product changes, competitor activity and market needs; share useful insight with colleagues.
  • Handle customer concerns openly and promptly, involving the right people to resolve quality, technical, delivery or commercial issues.
  • Work towards agreed sales and margin objectives, review performance and take responsibility for agreed actions.

Required Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in engineering, materials science, chemistry or a closely related technical discipline, together with proven B2B technical sales or business development experience.
  • Strong knowledge of technical materials and their applications, with confidence using datasheets to discuss product suitability.
  • Commercial awareness, including pricing, margin, lead times and the importance of accurate customer commitments.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical information at an appropriate level.
  • Good organisation, attention to detail and ability to manage several enquiries and deadlines at once.
  • Proficiency using a CRM system (specifically Monday.com) and Microsoft Office applications to maintain records, prepare correspondence and track activity.
  • Ability to learn Chiltern Connections’ product range, processes and the requirements of electronics manufacturing customers quickly.
  • Valid UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as the role requires.

Desirable Skills

  • Specific knowledge of conformal coatings, potting compounds, adhesives, silicones, resins or related electronic materials.
  • Experience selling to electronics manufacturers, OEMs or customers in quality-sensitive sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret customer specifications and technical drawings, knowing when to seek specialist advice.
  • Ability to read technical drawings or customer specifications and know when to seek specialist advice.
  • Experience using systems such as Microsoft 365, Monday.com CRM and Katana ERP.
