Description

Job Purpose:                   

The purpose of this role is to provide efficient commercial and administrative support to the estimators and wider team. By assisting with cost control, procurement and valuation, the Trainee Quantity Surveyor supports the successful delivery of projects and contributes to overall business performance.  

 

Responsibilities:             

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of tenders, quotations and contracts.
  • Organise and file correspondence, drawings, specifications, and commercial documentation.
  • Assist in preparation, compilation and submission of quotations.
  • Source and gather supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Complete take-offs for new tender submissions, and create new estimate and project folders in accordance with company procedures.
  • Assist with supplier invoice approvals and project costing activities.
  • Support reconciliation of supplier invoices against purchase orders and site delivery notes.

 

Accountability:         

  • Delivering effective administrative support to estimators and the wider commercial team.
  • Assist with forecasting and reporting mid-month progress.
  • Collate relevant information for monthly commercial reports and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Maintain and update cost tracking spreadsheets for projects.
  • Track variations, update commercial records, and maintain audit trails.

           

External relationships and communication:

  • Written and verbal communication with suppliers and subcontractors to clarify quotations, documentation requirements, and invoice queries.

 

Internal relationships and communications:  

  • Working with all members of the Cambridge and wider teams, collaborate between departments where required.
  • Proactively establishing support required through effective two-way communication both written and verbal.

  • Bespoke targets are agreed during annual appraisals.

Knowledge and Experience – Essential:

Knowledge and Experience – Desirable:

  • Experience working with suppliers, subcontractors, or external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of financial controls, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Previous experience in similar assistant or coordinator role.

Education and Training – Essential:

  • Microsoft Office skills – Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Basic numeracy and analytics skills.
