As an On-Call Support Worker with the Cairns Sexual Assault Service (CSAS), you will provide immediate, trauma-informed support to adults who present to emergency departments following sexual assault or intimate partner violence.

Working within a 24-hour on-call roster system, you will play a vital role in ensuring people receive timely information, coordinated care, and compassionate advocacy during a highly vulnerable time.

This role is focused on crisis response, interagency coordination, and practical and emotional support at the point of need.

 

About the role

This role is offered on a casual basis, with 24/7 shifts and is being actively recruited, applications will be reviewed upon submission.

Pay Rate: $58 – $63

*Blue card & Hep B immunity required for this role.

As an On-Call Support Worker, you will respond to after-hours callouts to support people who have recently experienced sexual assault or intimate partner violence.

Working closely with Emergency Departments, Queensland Health, Queensland Police Service and forensic medical practitioners, you will ensure clients receive coordinated, respectful and informed care.

This role includes:

  • Providing immediate crisis support, procedural information and advocacy to people who have recently experienced sexual assault
  • Supporting informed decision-making regarding forensic medical examinations, medical care and police involvement
  • Coordinating access to integrated medical and forensic examination services where required
  • Liaising with Emergency Department staff, forensic medical doctors and Queensland Police Service
  • Organising transport support when required (e.g. police assistance or taxi vouchers)
  • Providing information and support to family members or support persons where appropriate
  • Completing accurate and timely case notes following callouts
  • Contributing to orientation, training and team meetings
  • Maintaining accurate records in line with organisational policies and legislative requirements
  • Working in accordance with workplace health and safety, risk management and safeguarding frameworks

About you

You are calm under pressure, highly reliable, and able to respond effectively in emotionally complex and fast-moving situations. You bring a strong understanding of trauma and are committed to supporting victim-survivors with dignity and respect.

You will bring:

  • Diploma-level qualification in behavioural sciences or related field, or significant relevant experience (or working towards qualification) or relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of sexual violence, including relevant legislation and system responses
  • Experience in or willingness to provide crisis support in sensitive and high-pressure environments
  • Understanding of interagency responses involving health, police and forensic services
  • Strong written communication skills, including accurate and timely case note documentation
  • High level of personal resilience and capacity for self-care when working with trauma exposure
  • Ability to work independently within a structured on-call roster system

Requirements:

  • Current Queensland C Class driver’s license
  • Current Blue Card (or eligibility to obtain) and compliance with regulated workforce requirements
  • Hep B Immunity
  • Commitment to maintaining professional skills and adherence to organisational policies and procedures
