We are looking for a friendly, reliable and hardworking Retail Assistant to join our garden centre team. This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same. You’ll support all areas of the business, helping to deliver an excellent customer experience while ensuring the centre remains well-stocked, clean and welcoming.

An important part of this role will be in our Leisure department assisting customers with Garden Furniture, water features and barbecues, then moving into Christmas to ensure our inspiring displays are maintained and stock is replenished.

This role will be working the following hours:

Mondays 9:00am-5:00pm

Tuesdays 9:00am-5:00pm

Wednesdays 9:00am-5:00pm

Thursdays 9:00am-5:00pm

Sundays 10:00am-4:00pm

Total=36 hours per week

 

Key Responsibilities:

As a Retail Assistant, you will:

  • Deliver a warm welcome and provide outstanding customer service at all times.
  • Work across all areas of the garden centre, supporting departments as required.
  • Assist customers with purchases, product enquiries and carrying items to vehicles.
  • Collect and return trolleys, ensuring they are available and presented neatly for customers.
  • Operate tills and provide checkout cover when required.
  • Replenish stock, merchandise displays and maintain high standards throughout the centre.
  • Assist with deliveries, including unloading, checking, labelling and stocking products.
  • Support stock management activities, including stock counts and inventory checks.
  • Keep all customer-facing and back-of-house areas clean, tidy and safe.
  • Follow all company health and safety procedures.
  • Handle customer queries and concerns professionally, seeking support when necessary.
  • Work flexibly to support seasonal peaks, special events and operational requirements.

 

Skills Knowledge and Expertise:

The ideal retail assistant is someone who:

  • Enjoys working with customers and delivering excellent service.
  • Is friendly, approachable and positive with a can-do attitude.
  • Works well as part of a team and is willing to support colleagues across different departments.
  • Has previous customer service or retail experience (desirable but not essential).
  • Is eager to learn new skills and take on a variety of responsibilities.
  • Is organised, dependable and able to work on their own initiative.
  • Is flexible and able to work weekends and additional shifts during busy periods when required.
