Description

The Purchasing Manager oversees the procurement of goods, materials, and services required by an organisation. The role ensures that purchasing activities deliver the best value for money, maintain quality standards, and support production, operations, or project needs. This position involves developing procurement strategies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.

Job Role / Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement Strategy & Planning

• Develop and implement effective purchasing strategies aligned with business goals.

• Forecast procurement needs based on production schedules, project requirements, or inventory levels.

• Establish cost-saving initiatives and monitor procurement budgets.

2. Supplier Management

• Identify, evaluate, and select reliable suppliers and vendors.

• Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms of service to ensure best value and quality.

• Build and maintain long-term strategic supplier relationships.

• Monitor supplier performance and address issues related to quality, delivery, or compliance.

3. Operations & Process Management

• Oversee daily purchasing operations and ensure timely procurement of materials.

• Approve purchase orders and ensure accurate documentation.

• Manage procurement software systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Coupa).

• Collaborate with internal departments (production, logistics, finance) to ensure supply chain efficiency.

4. Risk Management & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with legal regulations, company policies, and ethical standards.

• Mitigate risks related to supply shortages, market volatility, or contract disputes.

• Conduct regular supplier audits and performance reviews.

5. Leadership & Reporting

• Lead and mentor the purchasing team, setting clear performance objectives.

• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cost savings, delivery performance, and supplier reliability.

• Report purchasing performance and market trends to senior management.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, or a related field.

• Professional certifications such as CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) or MCIPS status are highly desirable.

• A master’s degree (MBA or MSc in Supply Chain Management) is an advantage for senior roles.
