Marketing Manager
Location: Welsh Mountain
Zoo, Colwyn Bay
Salary: £30,000 – £34,266.04
(depending on experience)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Drive visitor growth. Build our
brand. Help secure the future of the National Zoo of Wales.
At Welsh Mountain Zoo, our mission is simple: to inspire passion for nature with every unforgettable visit. Every visitor, every membership, every event and every commercial decision helps us care for wildlife, educate future generations and secure the long-term future of the National Zoo of Wales.
As the National Zoo of Wales, we’re home to more than 60 incredible species across our spectacular 37-acre site, welcoming over 160,000 visitors each year. Every ticket sold, every
membership purchased, every event promoted and every supporter engaged helps fund vital animal care, conservation and education.
We’re looking for an ambitious, creative and commercially focused Marketing Manager to lead our marketing function and play a key role in growing visitor numbers, increasing income and strengthening the Zoo’s profile.
This is an exciting opportunity for a marketing professional who wants to see the direct impact of their work. You’ll help shape how thousands of visitors discover, experience and engage with the National Zoo of Wales while supporting our long-term conservation mission.
The Opportunity
Marketing is central to the Zoo’s future success.
Reporting to the Commercial Director, you’ll take ownership of developing and delivering marketing strategies that increase visitor numbers, grow memberships, drive events, support fundraising and strengthen the Zoo’s reputation.
This is a highly visible, hands-on role. You’ll spend as much time out across the Zoo as you do behind a desk, working alongside teams, capturing content, supporting events and ensuring our marketing reflects the incredible experiences we offer.
No two days are the same. One day you could be launching a major seasonal campaign, the next filming behind-the-scenes content with our animal team, responding to media enquiries, supporting a live event, reviewing campaign performance or identifying new opportunities to increase income.
We’re looking for someone who gets things done. You’ll be proactive, full of ideas and equally comfortable developing strategy, creating content, analysing data and rolling up your sleeves to deliver campaigns.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be responsible for:
- Developing and delivering ambitious marketing
strategies that increase visitor numbers, grow revenue and support the
Zoo’s commercial objectives.
- Taking ownership of marketing campaigns across
admissions, memberships, events, retail, visitor experiences, fundraising
and education.
- Identifying new audiences and opportunities to grow
the Zoo’s reach, reputation and commercial performance.
- Leading the Zoo’s social media strategy, creating
engaging content while ensuring comments, reviews, enquiries and direct
messages are monitored and responded to promptly and professionally.
- Creating high-quality photography, video and
written content that showcases our animals, conservation work, visitor
experiences and events.
- Planning and delivering integrated campaigns across
digital, print, email, PR, advertising and outdoor media.
- Managing the Zoo’s website and digital presence,
ensuring content is accurate, engaging and optimised to convert visitors.
- Monitoring campaign performance, analysing data and
using insight to improve marketing effectiveness and return on investment.
- Managing external agencies, suppliers and partners
to maximise campaign performance and value for money.
- Building strong relationships with local and
national media, tourism partners, influencers and community organisations.
- Working collaboratively with teams across the Zoo
to promote conservation projects, fundraising campaigns, educational
programmes and commercial opportunities.
- Supporting the Commercial Director and Senior
Leadership Team with marketing reporting, budgets, planning and
recommendations.
- Championing the Welsh Mountain Zoo brand, ensuring
consistency across all communications and visitor touchpoints.
- Exploring new digital tools, including AI and
emerging technologies, to improve marketing efficiency and effectiveness.
- Delivering against agreed KPIs including visitor
numbers, revenue generation, audience growth, engagement and campaign
performance.
About You
You’re an experienced marketer who combines creativity with commercial thinking. You understand that great marketing changes behaviour, inspires visits and delivers measurable results. You’re as comfortable reviewing campaign data and budgets as you are creating engaging content, briefing suppliers or capturing a story on site.
You’ll enjoy working at pace, spotting opportunities and balancing strategic planning with reactive marketing that responds to the animals, visitors and experiences that make the Zoo unique.
We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience in tourism, leisure, hospitality, attractions, retail or the charity sector, together with:
- Experience planning and delivering successful
multi-channel marketing campaigns.
- Strong knowledge of digital marketing, social media
and audience engagement.
- Excellent copywriting, communication and
storytelling skills.
- Experience managing websites, email marketing and
digital advertising.
- Confidence using analytics and marketing data to
inform decisions.
- Experience managing external agencies or suppliers.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to
manage multiple priorities.
- A proactive, creative and collaborative approach.
- Experience using digital tools, including AI, to
support marketing activity.
- A passion for creating exceptional visitor
experiences and supporting wildlife conservation.
Above all, you’ll be someone who enjoys finding new ways to inspire people to visit, engage with and support Welsh Mountain Zoo.
