Location: Multi-site with regular travel across company depots. Suffolk/Essex Region.
Main sites at Worlingworth and Ardleigh.
About the Role
We are looking for an approachable and practical HR Advisor to join our Human Resources team. This is a varied, hands-on role supporting managers and employees across a multi-site business, with regular travel across our depot network. You will play an important part in making HR visible, supportive and proactive by maintaining a regular site visit schedule, building strong relationships and ensuring colleagues know HR is there to support them — not just when a problem arises.
What you will be doing
You’ll provide day-to-day HR advice and support across employee relations, absence, performance, recruitment, onboarding, engagement, HR administration and projects.
Working closely with the Head of HR, you’ll help managers deal with people matters confidently and consistently, while developing your own experience in a broad generalist HR role.
- Provide first-line advice to managers on conduct, performance, probation, absence, grievance, disciplinary, capability and attendance matters.
- Support employee meetings, investigations and formal processes, including preparing documentation and maintaining accurate confidential records.
- Manage straightforward employee relations and absence cases, escalating complex or higher-risk matters where needed.
- Build strong working relationships with depot and line managers through routine contact and planned site visits.
- Provide practical guidance on HR policies, procedures, best practice and UK employment law.
- Support recruitment activity, onboarding, inductions and probation reviews.
- Contribute to employee engagement, communication, surveys, feedback, action plans and retention activity.
- Maintain accurate HR records and support reporting on absence, turnover, recruitment and other people measures.
- Support HR projects and improvement initiatives across the business.
About you
We’re looking for someone who is confident working with people, able to build trust quickly and comfortable supporting managers with day-to-day HR matters.
You’ll be organised, practical and solutions-focused, with a genuine interest in understanding the wider business and supporting colleagues across multiple locations.
- Previous HR experience, such as HR Assistant, HR Coordinator, HR Officer or Junior HR Advisor.
- Practical understanding of employee relations processes, HR administration and core people practices.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with confidence engaging managers and employees at all levels.
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately and manage priorities across multiple locations.
- A positive, professional and resilient approach, with willingness to learn and develop.
- Ability to travel regularly between company locations and hold a full UK driving licence.
It would also be helpful if you have:
- CIPD Level 3 qualification and/or be working towards CIPD Level 5.
- Experience within a multi-site organisation or operational environment, such as agricultural, engineering, automotive or manufacturing.
- Experience supporting disciplinary, grievance, absence or performance management cases.
What we’re looking for
You’ll be approachable, collaborative and confident giving clear advice. You’ll enjoy working as part of a small HR team, be comfortable supporting sensitive situations professionally and be keen to keep developing your HR knowledge and responsibility.
