Description

We are looking for a commercially aware Project Accountant to support the financial performance of projects across the business.

This role will act as a key link between Finance and Commercial teams, ensuring project costs, revenues, and cash flow are accurately managed, reported, and controlled. You’ll play a key part in supporting payment applications, managing debtors, and providing clear financial insight to support decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Project Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly project accounts, ensuring accurate cost and income allocation
  • Produce Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) with the Commercial team
  • Monitor project performance against budgets and forecasts
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances
  • Produce clear monthly reporting on project margins and cash position

Payment Applications

  • Support preparation and submission of client payment applications
  • Reconcile applications to contract values and variations
  • Track applications through to payment and flag delays or discrepancies
  • Ensure alignment between applications and financial reporting

Debtors & Cash Flow Management

  • Monitor and manage trade debtors across the business
  • Maintain accurate debtor records and chase outstanding payments
  • Produce aged debt reports and highlight risks
  • Work with clients and internal teams to resolve queries quickly

Finance & Commercial Collaboration

  • Act as the main finance contact for Commercial and Operations teams
  • Attend project review meetings and support financial decision-making
  • Provide insight and constructive challenge to project performance
  • Support preparation of financial information for board reporting

Controls & Compliance

  • Maintain strong financial controls across project activities
  • Support audit and statutory reporting requirements
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards

About You

  • Part-qualified or qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent)
  • Experience in project or management accounting, ideally within construction, engineering, or a project-led environment
  • Strong understanding of CVRs, cost control, and financial reporting
  • Experience managing debtors and cash collection processes
  • Confident working with non-finance stakeholders and explaining financial information clearly
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong Excel and systems skills

Desirable

  • Experience in construction or contracting environments
  • Knowledge of CIS or similar sector-specific requirements
  • Experience working in a multi-entity business
