Route Setting Prepper 

The Role 😊 

The Route Setting Prepper assists in the daily operations of the Route Setting Department and is responsible for the stripping and washing of holds at the beginning of each setting day. You will support the Route Setting Department in the maintenance of climbing holds, macros, wooden volumes, equipment, and climbing areas; both bouldering and roped.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic team member to join us on a part-time basis with varied hours depending on the density of the weekly setting schedule (minimum of 2-4 shifts/ 10-20 hours per week). 

 

This is a permanent role with a starting salary of £15.55 per hour. 

Main duties & responsibilities ✨ 

  • Putting up safe exclusion zones around setting areas;  
  • Stripping rope climbing and bouldering areas prior to the setting day;  
  • Washing holds with a jet washer;  
  • Keeping proper maintenance of holds in the storerooms;  
  • Transporting holds and equipment to setting areas;  
  • Assisting with Route Setting Department maintenance work, which may include tightening holds on the outdoor boulders during summer, organizing and maintaining setting storerooms, replacing missing grade tags or removing broken holds and other ad-hoc tasks

Expectations 

The successful applicant is not expected to have all the skills required to be able to take on the above duties immediately – they will gain the responsibilities as they receive appropriate training and acquire sufficient level of skill.  

 

The successful applicant can expect thorough, varied, and high-quality training from our team of in-house route setters, and regular 1-to-1 communication and feedback on the progress of their training.
