    Stores Assistant – Full-Time or Part-Time

    Location: Coatbridge, Scotland

    Structural Metal Decks (SMD) is looking for a Stores Assistant to join our team at our Coatbridge yard. We’re happy to consider both full-time and part-time working arrangements for this role. Working days and hours can be flexible and will be discussed during the interview process, taking into account the requirements of the role and the successful candidate.

    This is a practical, hands-on role supporting the day-to-day running of our operational stores. As part of a small team, you’ll need to be self-motivated, proactive and comfortable managing your own workload, while making sure our orders are fulfilled and site teams have the tools, equipment and materials they need.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist with the day-to-day running of the operational stores.
    • Receive deliveries and check stock into stores accurately.
    • Book tools, plant and equipment in and out using company systems.
    • Pick and prepare tools, equipment and materials required by our site teams.
    • Cut metal decking to the required sizes and prepare orders ready for collection and delivery to site.
    • Load and unload vehicles safely using a forklift.
    • Assist with the distribution and collection of plant, tools and equipment.
    • Check returned tools and equipment and report any damage or defects.
    • Help ensure tools and equipment are maintained, repaired and tested as required.
    • Prepare and pack GRP and VoidSafe orders where required.
    • Refuel and restock stud welding equipment and operational plant.
    • Assist with stock checks and help maintain appropriate stock levels.
    • Keep the stores and surrounding work areas clean, organised and safe.
    • Complete relevant paperwork and maintain accurate records.
    • Support the wider team with general stores duties as required.
    • Follow company Health & Safety procedures and safe working practices at all times.

    What We’re Looking For

    • Valid Counterbalance Forklift Licence.
    • Previous experience cutting sheet metal, metal decking or similar steel products.
    • Abrasive Wheels certification/experience.
    • Previous experience within a stores, warehouse, construction or similar industrial environment.
    • Full UK Driving Licence.
    • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to manage your own workload and use your initiative.
    • Reliable and organised with a practical approach to work.
    • Comfortable with the physical and hands-on nature of the role.
    • Able to work effectively as part of a small team.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Able to follow instructions and maintain accurate records.
    • Good understanding of manual handling and general Health & Safety requirements.
    • Familiarity with the safe use of PPE.
    • Basic IT skills, including email.

    Working Hours

    We are open to considering full-time or part-time hours for this position.

    There is flexibility around working days/pattern and will be discussed during the interview process based on the requirements of the stores and the hours the successful candidate is looking for.
