Stockyard Operative

SMD Stockyards is proud to be the largest stockist of profiled metal sheeting products in the UK. We’re currently recruiting for a Stockyard Assistant to join our Cheadle Yard.

This is a physically active role, involving both yard duties and support to the on-site office. If you’re within commutable distance from the yard and are practical, reliable, and thrive in an outdoor environment, we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities

• Deliver excellent customer service – serve customers promptly and efficiently
• Maintain a clean, tidy, and organised yard environment
• Check and process incoming and outgoing goods
• Load and unload vehicles safely and efficiently
• Prepare consignments for dispatch
• Sheet cutting using belt equipment
• Assist with general yard and office duties as required
• Operate within strict health & safety guidelines at all times

Requirements

• Full UK Driving License
• Counterbalance Forklift Licence (valid & in date, although training/refreshers can be given)
• Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors
• Good organisational and communication skills
• Able to follow instructions and keep accurate records
• Manual Handling experience
• Working knowledge of Health & Safety best practices
• Familiarity with safe use of PPE
• Experience in a similar role or industrial/yard setting
• Abrasive Wheels Certificate (Desirable)
• Basic understanding of Microsoft Office 365 (email & Microsoft Word)

Interview Process

• We will arrange a short initial phone call, followed by a visit to the yard to meet the hiring manager.
