Caretaker / Cleaner – DE6 1EJ

We are looking to recruit a reliable, hardworking and proactive Caretaker/Cleaner to join the team from August 2026.

This is a varied and important role helping to maintain a safe, clean and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

Due to the nature of the role, we are ideally looking for someone local who can respond flexibly when required.

Hours & Pay

    • Monday to Friday
    • 7 hours per day
    • All year round position
    • £14.00 per hour

    The role will typically consist of approximately 3 hours in the morning from around 6:45am, and 4 hours in the afternoon from approximately 2:30pm–6:30pm.

    Approximately 1.5–2 hours per day will involve cleaning duties, with the remaining hours focused on caretaking responsibilities including opening/locking the school, site maintenance, compliance checks and general upkeep of the premises.

    However, flexibility will be required depending on the needs of the school.

Main Duties Include

  • Unlocking and locking the school premises
  • Opening blinds and preparing the school each morning
  • Replenishing soap, hand towels and tissues
  • Controlling gates at set times
  • General DIY and maintenance tasks (non-electrical/non-gas)
  • Cleaning duties including vacuuming, mopping, dusting and litter picking
  • Maintaining the school grounds and hall floor cleanliness
  • Leaf clearing, snow clearing and gritting when required
  • Setting up the school hall stage when needed

Compliance & Safety Duties

  • Daily emergency exit and fire panel checks
  • Weekly fire alarm testing and water flushing
  • Monthly water temperature, emergency lighting and fire safety checks
  • Meter readings for gas, electric and water
  • Six-monthly ladder inspections

Additional Responsibilities

  • Managing cleaning products and stock levels
  • Liaising with the school admin team and Business Operations Manager
  • Supporting contractors and responding to emergency call-outs where required
  • Flexibility around working hours to support school operations
