Description

Sequora Capability – Trainee and Experienced Procurement and Commercial Consultants

Build capability. Deliver Value. Accelerate your career.

Expression of Interest

Are you looking for an accelerated route into a procurement and commercial career or the opportunity to lead and mentor others in this field? Are you ready to invest in your development, advance your career opportunities, and deliver meaningful outcomes for clients?

If so, you may be exactly who Sequora is for: a supported, ambitious pathway designed for faster progression, with the potential for a permanent role with an end client.

Key Information

Locations (hubs): London, Manchester, Birmingham Working pattern: Hybrid, typically two to three days per week on client site or in a Sequora hub Basic salary: £26,227 to £40,000 per annum depending on experience and client role Duration: 18 months to 2 years

Why This Is a Rare Opportunity

From day one, you contribute to real client outcomes, not simulated learning. This is a direct route into an accelerated development pathway within a recognised profession. You will deliver for a client while building credible procurement and commercial experience and working towards an internationally recognised qualification (CIPS).

The work you support will require careful thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to make decisions that stand up to scrutiny.

You will work alongside experienced practitioners and commercial experts, with structured check-ins and guided responsibility as your capability develops.

What You Get Through the Capability Pathway

  • Full salary and benefits while delivering client work from day one
  • Funded professional accreditation (CIPS Level 4 Procurement and Supply apprenticeship or equivalent)
  • Support from experienced practitioners through coaching and mentoring
  • Structured development with clear capability checkpoints
  • Exposure to stakeholder engagement, contracts, governance, and value-for-money decision-making

You will be employed by Sequora as a Sequora Practitioner and undertake an accelerated programme of learning and development. When mobilised, you will join a live, commissioned client role with clear expectations and structured support.

You will not be left to sink or swim. Responsibility increases as your capability grows, supported by regular check-ins, feedback, and practical guidance.

Core and Advanced Capability Pathways

Sequora operates two distinct Capability pathways: Core and Advanced, aligned to your readiness, experience, and potential to operate with increasing responsibility.

Core Capability Pathway Designed for individuals earlier in their procurement and commercial journey, the Core pathway focuses on building strong foundational capability through structured development and supported delivery.

You will develop confidence in:

  • Working with data, contracts, and governance processes
  • Supporting procurement and commercial activity
  • Producing clear, accurate, and reliable outputs
  • Operating effectively in a client environment

Support is structured and consistent, with close guidance as your capability develops and your judgement strengthens.

Advanced Capability Pathway The Advanced pathway is for individuals who demonstrate stronger initial capability, relevant experience, or accelerated potential.

In addition to delivering client outcomes, you will be expected to:

  • Take greater ownership of your work and decision-making
  • Operate with increased autonomy in client environments
  • Contribute to shaping approaches, not just executing them
  • Support and mentor Core pathway members, helping to guide their development and strengthen overall team performance

This reflects a higher level of expectation, accountability, and professional judgement. You will be trusted to apply discernment in your decisions and act with integrity in how you support both clients and colleagues.

You are not only developing your own capability, you are actively contributing to the capability of others.

How Pathway Placement Works

Placement into Core or Advanced is based on a holistic assessment of your:

  • Experience and exposure to procurement or commercial environments
  • Demonstrated behaviours, judgement, and accountability
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply that learning in practice

Movement between pathways may occur as your capability develops.

The Sequora Capability Pathway

The Sequora Capability pathway is a selective development route for individuals who want to build real procurement and commercial capability through paid, applied experience, professional accreditation, and structured support.

This is an expression of interest for future client-commissioned roles, not a single advertised vacancy. It is an opportunity to register early and be considered as demand arises.

What Procurement and Commercial Means in Government

In Government departments, Procurement and Commercial teams enable public services to buy and manage the goods and services they rely on, from digital and professional services to estates, facilities, and major programmes.

The work focuses on selecting the right suppliers, running fair and transparent processes, managing contracts effectively, improving value for money, and making decisions that stand up to scrutiny.

This requires sound judgement, clarity of thinking, and the ability to act responsibly in environments where decisions have real impact.

You Might Support Work Such As

  • Planning and running competitive procurements and sourcing activity
  • Drafting and managing contracts, changes, and extensions
  • Working with suppliers to improve performance and resolve issues
  • Supporting governance, approvals, and audit-ready record keeping
  • Analysing spend, risk, and contract data to improve value for money
  • Producing clear written outputs for internal and external scrutiny

Who We Are

Sequora is a procurement and commercial consultancy and capability partner supporting complex organisations in the private and public sector.

We help clients make strong decisions, manage risk, and protect value. Our work is shaped by three values: discernment, growth with depth, and integrity in motion. These values shape how we deliver for clients and how we develop our people.

Values and Inclusion at Sequora

At Sequora, our values are not statements on a page. They are how we make decisions, how we deliver for clients, and how we assess performance.

We look for people who naturally demonstrate:

  • Discernment – the ability to think clearly, ask the right questions, and exercise sound judgement
  • Growth with depth – a commitment to learning properly and applying that learning in practice
  • Integrity in motion – doing the right thing consistently, especially when it is difficult or under pressure

These values matter because procurement and commercial work sits at the centre of public trust, value for money, and decisions that must stand up to scrutiny.

We are a Real Living Wage employer, a Disability Confident registered employer, an Armed Forces Covenant holder, and a signatory of the Social Mobility Pledge.

In practice, this means we recruit for potential, not background. We provide reasonable adjustments where needed and support people through structured coaching, continual fair assessment, and clear expectations.

If these values reflect how you think and work, you are likely to thrive here.

What You Will Develop

Depending on readiness and client context, you may gain experience in sourcing, contracts, supplier engagement, governance, analysis, cost control, risk management, and process improvement.

You are not expected to arrive as an expert. You are expected to be curious, reflective, and willing to apply learning with integrity.

Capability is demonstrated through outcomes and judgement, not attendance or titles.

The Virtual Bench

Successful candidates may be preselected to join Sequora’s virtual bench and prioritised for future mobilisation.

This is not a guarantee of immediate placement. It is a signal of readiness, alignment with Sequora’s values, and potential to grow through the Capability pathway.

What Happens After the Capability Pathway

There may be an opportunity to move into a permanent role with the end client, where it is right for both sides and you wish to accept it.

If that is not available or not the right next step, you will complete the pathway with:

  • A recognised professional qualification
  • Significant applied experience
  • Membership of the Sequora Alumni community

We will continue to support your progression through opportunities within Sequora and across our wider network.

Is This Right for You

This pathway is open to people of all backgrounds and career stages. Educational attainment is secondary to your values, attributes, judgement, and potential to learn and deliver.

You are likely to be:

  • Curious and adaptable
  • Willing to take responsibility for your development
  • Comfortable working with information
  • Confident using digital tools or willing to learn
  • Able to build professional relationships based on trust and credibility

Procurement and commercial work requires resilience, sound judgement, and the ability to remain thoughtful under pressure.

We assess potential through behaviours and judgement aligned to our values, not just experience.
