Description

Overview

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Plant & Transport Team Leader to support the efficient management of all plant, machinery, vans, tools, and associated equipment across our operations. This role ensures that all plant fleet (not HGV’s) assets are maintained, compliant, and available to the teams that need them, helping us deliver safe and effective projects on time.

Key Responsibilities

Plant Management &Coordination

·Oversee the allocation, distribution, and tracking of all plant and equipment.

·Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers to arrange delivery, collection, hire, and off hire of plant.

·Maintain accurate records of plant utilisation, availability, and location.

·Ensure Operational Teams meet SLA’s when ordering

Maintenance &Compliance

·Schedule routine servicing, inspections, and repairs to ensure equipment is safe and operational.

·Ensure all plant complies with relevant UK health, safety, and regulatory standards (e.g., LOLER, PUWER).

·Maintain certification records and ensure documentation is up to date.

Supplier Management

·Act as the main point of contact with plant hire companies and maintenance providers.

·Work with Procurement who will lead on pricing, terms, and availability to maximise value and minimise downtime.

·Communicate plant needs and updates to project teams and site personnel.

 

 

Administration & Reporting

·Keep detailed logs, reports, and asset registers using internal systems.

·Monitor plant related costs and support budget control.

·Produce utilisation reports and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.

·Maintain control of Fuel cards for 100% compliance

·Ensure Daily vehicle checks are happening to 100%

·Maintain compliance with fleet and roadworthy plant on the Insurance Log

·Maintain compliance with weekly plant checks

·Control of the damage log & process – driving 100% compliance

·Liaison with Finance Dept. on PO’s, Invoice queries, general administration

·Maintain compliance with all relevant processes

·Work with Compliance Manager to identify risks within the department, and work up solutions on how to resolve & make resolutions stick

·Communicate well with key departments across Opus; such as Operations & Finance

 

 

Skills & Experience Essential:

·Experience in plant coordination, logistics, construction, or a similar operational role.

·Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.

·Excellent communication skills and confidence liaising with suppliers and site teams.

·Working knowledge of UK plant related safety standards and regulations.

·Proficiency with IT systems such as asset management software, Excel, and digital tracking tools.

 

Desirable:

·Experience in the construction, civil engineering, or utilities sectors.

·Knowledge of LOLER/PUWER compliance requirements.
