Description

Are you an experienced bookkeeper looking for your next step? Do you enjoy delivering accurate, timely work, supporting clients and helping others develop their technical confidence?

We’re looking for a proactive, detail-focused Senior Bookkeeper who is a genuine team player and an ambassador for the MPA brand. You’ll provide high-quality bookkeeping and payroll services to our clients, while reviewing and supporting the work of junior team members to help ensure accuracy, consistency and timely delivery.

Day to day, you’ll complete bookkeeping assignments to a high standard, ensuring deadlines are met, records are accurate, and clients receive an excellent service. You’ll also support managers and colleagues by helping to answer bookkeeping queries, maintain quality and contribute to the smooth running of the bookkeeping and payroll service.

The Role:

  • Completing bookkeeping tasks to a high standard and to deadline, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, daily transactions and ledger management.
  • Providing payroll support, including calculation, administration, reporting and compliance, ensuring individual and collective deadlines are met.
  • Preparing invoices, bills, year-end analysis, debtor and creditor reporting, accruals and prepayments.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records using appropriate software, ensuring records are complete, accurate and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviewing bookkeeping, payroll, reconciliation and financial records prepared by junior team members, providing constructive feedback and helping to ensure work is accurate and complete.
  • Supporting junior colleagues by reviewing their work, answering queries and helping them develop their technical knowledge and confidence.
  • Liaising with managers, colleagues and clients to agree deadlines, provide progress updates, resolve queries and support excellent client service.
  • Supporting managers and senior accounting colleagues with budgets, records, statements and other finance-related tasks.
  • Keeping knowledge up to date through training and CPD, including AML, GDPR and relevant accounting, tax and payroll requirements.
  • Helping to maintain accurate software records, monitoring spreadsheets and internal systems so that information is complete, reliable and reportable.

The Candidate:

Experience

  • AAT Level 3 or equivalent qualification in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in bookkeeping or a similar role.
  • Experience in bookkeeping, payroll and VAT, ideally within an accountancy practice or client-service environment.
  • Good working knowledge of accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks or similar.
  • Experience reviewing or checking the work of others would be beneficial.
  • Understanding of accounting, tax, payroll, VAT, AML and GDPR requirements.

  • Proactive, resourceful and able to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Trustworthy and discreet, demonstrating integrity and embodying MPA values and behaviours.
  • Willing to maintain and develop technical knowledge through ongoing training.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel as required.
  • The right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role.

This is a hybrid role and can be based nationally, but will include regular travel to our offices in Cranfield near Milton Keynes and to client sites as required.
