The role
We are seeking a
highly motivated and well organised individual to assist the Retail Store
Manager. The success of the store is the responsibility of the team to
positively drive performance forward – Could

You will assist the
Retail Store Manager, ensuring its success in meeting all company and department
objectives. Leading all store staff, including volunteers in the absence of the
Store Manage.
This
is a physically demanding position in a busy retail environment with some
lifting of furniture/donated goods required

33 days per annum, which includes bank holidays (pro rata for part
time), increasing after five and 10 years’ service.

Mission
“We help local adults with complex, progressive illnesses from
diagnosis to the end of life through free, high quality, specialist palliative
care, advice and guidance, and we support those close to them.”
Purpose and impact
Katharine
House Hospice provides all its services free of charge to patients and their
families. In order to do this funds need to be raised, Katharine House Retail
is key to this, maximising the funds it can raise through the sale of donated
items and other merchandising.
Part of the team
To
assist the Retail Store Manager in the running of the store, ensuring its
success in meeting all company and department objectives, in accordance with
KHH policies and procedures. To deputise in the Managers / Deputy Managers
absence, leading other members of store
personnel, including volunteers.
Function and Responsibilities
Specific
Objectives
The
post holder will assist the Retail Store Management team in driving the
performance of the store by:
- Contributing to the store reaching sales targets and maximising
sustainable profits
- Ensuring maximum opportunity has been exhausted from each product
range.
- Ensuring an efficient turnover of stock which has been donated by
members of the public. A wide variety of
stock is processed through the store including items of fashion, bric-a-brac,
toys, books furniture & electrical goods (store specific)
- Exploring opportunities that will add value and/or generate retail
income.
Working
weekends (and Bank Holidays) this dynamic environment changes every day and the
list of duties will be varied, no one day is the same.
The
role could be broken up as follows;
- 80%
in the sort room / shop floor areas
- 20%
administration / attending meetings.
You
will be expected to contribute to operational objectives and participate in the
training, coaching, appraising and scheduling of employees and communicate
tasks daily to meet expectations.
Core
Responsibilities
Key Area – Responsibilities & Outputs
Sales
- Contribute to the
store achieving profit targets by maximising sales and minimising costs
- Ensuring the highest
standards of customer service at all times, dealing with any issues efficiently
- Supporting any
promotions as directed by the Retail Store Manager/Retail Operations Team
Actively encourage
- Gift Aid donations, from every donor, managing the process within the store,
adhering to Gift Aid compliance at all times.
Shop Appearance
- Contribute to
maintaining a high standard of presentation throughout all areas
- Provide a high stand of customer service
- Contribute to the
store achieving high standards of housekeeping, organisation and cleanliness
throughout the shop store premises
Stock
- Actively encourage
the public to donate saleable stock
- Ensure there is
adequate flow of stock from the stockroom to the shop floor, and a continual
availability of stock in each department at all times
- To sort, grade, steam (store specific, after
training), ticket and price merchandise
- In conjunction with the Transport
Co-ordinator, ensure the efficient use of KHH drivers, external contractors,
with the following:
- Furniture collections and deliveries
- Shop to shop, stock transfers
- Waste destined for the tip
- Uplift of stock
for recycling
- Contribute to the store being correctly
managed and organised in accordance with safety procedures
- This role will demand
moving a lot of stock on a daily basis, including heavy items
- Select and price stock at a consistent level
- Ensure that the store
is compliant with legislation and KHH policy surrounding the sale of goods
Staff and Volunteers – To Support the Retail Store Manager
- To actively recruit volunteers and provide training so
that they are able to perform their jobs efficiently and effectively
- To coach staff to enable them to perform their jobs
efficiently and effectively in accordance with recruitment policy
- To ensure the store is adequately staffed at all times in
order to maintain appropriate levels of service and stock productivity
- To create an organised and pleasant working environment
for staff and volunteers
- To inform the store team of business communications,
promotions and information relating to Katharine House and Retail Operation
- To ensure that all staff and volunteers comply with
Katharine House policies and procedures
- To ensure all training is completed by
designated timescales
Administration and Security – particularly when covering as Duty Manager
- Ensure all relevant administration/ operational systems
are completed on time
- Undertake banking in accordance with Katharine House
procedures ensuring that cash handling and security procedures are adhered to
- Ensure the security of all KHH stock
- Hold the store keys, ensuring that the store is secure
whenever it is left unattended
- Notify the local police, maintenance, Retail Store
Manager, Retail Operations Manager in the event of a break in, shop lifting
or security incident
- Notify the Retail Store Manager or Retail Operations
Manager in the event of a suspected theft or dishonesty by any member of
staff or volunteer
- Ensure that all staff and volunteers lock
purses and valuables away – lockers are provided
- Reply to / send emails as required for the
operation – KHH shop and KHH own email accounts
- Engage with ‘Teams’ communications daily
Health and Safety (H&S) – special note when Duty Manager
- Provide a safe environment for staff, volunteers and the
public.
- Lead by example in relation to H&S, complying with
legislation and the organisation’s H&S Policy and Procedures, this will
involve a hands-on approach, for example:
o carrying out practice fire drills,
o overseeing the safe use of equipment
o responding to accidents or incidents to help prevent a
reoccurrence
- Ensuring that staff and volunteers are compliant with
current H&S Legislation and the organisation’s H&S Policy and
Procedures
- Report any maintenance or H&S Issues to the Retail
Office and maintenance team
- Ensure that all electrical items sold have
undergone (and passed) Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) in accordance with
Katharine House procedures
- Ensure that all staff are trained and able to arrange
collections/ deliveries safely
- Ensure all relevant H&S training is completed, including
Manual Handling
Other tasks and Responsibilities
- Travel to other organisational premises as and when
required, for example
o to attend training courses or meetings
o Supporting other Katharine House retail stores
on an occasional basis, within a reasonable commutable area
- Any other duties as
required for the role or retail operation

Smoking is not permitted in Katharine House
