  • About the Role
  • We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and motivated Tutor & Daycare Centre Cook to join our regulated day-care setting supporting individuals with a range of disabilities.
  • This is a unique and rewarding dual-role position combining:
  • • Planning and delivering engaging, inclusive educational sessions
  • • Preparing and cooking nutritious daily lunches for clients
  • • Maintaining high kitchen hygiene standards
  • • Supporting clients to develop knowledge and confidence around healthy eating

  • Role Purpose
  • The Tutor is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating educational and enrichment sessions for individuals with a range of disabilities within a regulated day-care setting. The role requires a flexible and inclusive approach to teaching, ensuring that learning is differentiated to meet individual needs and communication styles.
  • In addition, the postholder will prepare nutritious daily lunches, maintain the kitchen to high hygiene standards, and support clients in learning about healthy meals and positive food choices.
  • The Tutor & Cook will use appropriate tools and strategies to promote engagement, independence, and personal development, while maintaining accurate records and contributing to the overall wellbeing of clients.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching & Learning Delivery
  • • Plan and deliver a wide variety of sessions tailored to the interests, abilities, and goals of clients.
  • • Differentiate teaching methods and materials to suit individual learning styles and communication needs.
  • • Use communication tools (e.g., visual aids, assistive technology, simplified language) to ensure clarity and accessibility.
  • • Promote active participation, independence, and confidence in all learning activities.
  • • Incorporate practical life skills learning, including food preparation and healthy living awareness.
  • Client Support & Engagement
  • • Build positive relationships with clients to understand their preferences, strengths, and support needs.
  • • Adapt sessions to reflect client feedback and observed progress.
  • • Support clients to understand healthy eating, balanced diets, and safe food practices.
  • • Work collaboratively with care staff to ensure learning is integrated into daily routines and support plans.
  • Catering & Kitchen Responsibilities
  • • Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious lunches daily for clients.
  • • Ensure meals meet dietary requirements and individual needs.
  • • Maintain the kitchen to high hygiene and food safety standards at all times.
  • • Follow food safety legislation and best practice guidelines.
  • • Monitor stock levels and support ordering where required.
  • • Promote client involvement in food preparation activities where appropriate.
  • Recordkeeping & Compliance
  • • Maintain accurate records of session plans, attendance, progress, and outcomes.
  • • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sessions and adjust delivery accordingly.
  • • Ensure all documentation meets internal standards and Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements.
  • • Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and food hygiene regulations.
  • Team Collaboration
  • • Work closely with the Daycare Centre Manager and other staff to align learning activities with care goals.
  • • Participate in team meetings and contribute to service development and improvement.
  • • Support the wider team in promoting a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment.

  • Essential
  • • Experience in teaching, tutoring, or facilitating learning for individuals with disabilities.
  • • Experience preparing meals in a professional setting.
  • • Knowledge of food hygiene standards and safe kitchen practices.
  • • Ability to differentiate learning and use varied communication tools effectively.
  • • Strong planning, organisational, and recordkeeping skills.
  • • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • • Commitment to person-centred approaches and inclusive education.
  • Desirable
  • • Relevant teaching or training qualification.
  • • Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above).
  • • Experience in a care or regulated setting.
  • • Knowledge of CQC standards and safeguarding principles.
  • Working Relationships
  • • Reports directly to the Daycare Centre Manager.
  • • Works collaboratively with care staff, support workers, and other tutors.
