We are now looking to recruit a Maintenance Operative at the Tipton site to join our team and play an important role in keeping our site, plant and equipment operating safely and efficiently.

The Role

As a Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across the site, helping to ensure that machinery, plant, equipment and facilities remain safe, reliable and operational.

Working closely with the maintenance and operational teams, you will identify and respond to maintenance issues, complete routine inspections and repairs, and support the continued smooth running of a busy recycling environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and routine inspections of plant, machinery and site equipment
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and maintenance issues to minimise operational downtime
  • Carry out repairs and basic fault finding across mechanical plant and equipment
  • Maintain and repair conveyors, balers, crushers and other recycling equipment where trained and competent
  • Assist with the maintenance of mobile plant and equipment
  • Carry out basic welding, fabrication and general repairs where required
  • Identify potential faults and report any issues that require specialist attention
  • Complete maintenance checks, service records and relevant paperwork accurately
  • Ensure all tools, equipment and maintenance areas are kept clean, organised and in good working condition
  • Work closely with site management and operational teams to plan and prioritise maintenance requirements
  • Ensure machinery is isolated and made safe before maintenance or repair work is undertaken
  • Follow company maintenance schedules, safe systems of work and permit-to-work procedures where applicable
  • Adhere to all company Health & Safety and environmental policies and procedures
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping across the site
  • Support the wider site team with general maintenance and ad-hoc duties as required
  • Work outdoors and in a busy recycling environment, often in varying weather conditions

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience in a maintenance, engineering or mechanical role, ideally within recycling, waste, manufacturing, construction or a similar heavy industrial environment
  • Has experience maintaining machinery, plant or heavy equipment
  • Has good mechanical knowledge and practical problem-solving skills
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors or processing equipment would be advantageous
  • Welding and fabrication experience would be desirable
  • Mobile plant or heavy plant maintenance experience would be advantageous
  • Can work independently and use initiative when identifying and resolving maintenance issues
  • Is reliable, organised and able to prioritise workload in a busy operational environment
  • Has a strong work ethic and a high level of attention to detail
  • Is comfortable working outdoors and around heavy machinery
  • Is Health & Safety conscious and understands the importance of following safe systems of work
  • Has good communication skills and works well as part of a team
  • Is willing to undertake further training and development as required

Experience:

    • Mechanical / Maintenance: 1 year (preferred)
    • Industrial or plant maintenance: 1 year (preferred)
