Job Description:
We are currently recruiting for a role focused on supporting major trauma patients, their families, and NHS staff, offering you a chance to step away from hands-on patient care.
In this position, you will provide a comprehensive bedside service, offering practical advice and resources to patients and families. The goal is to reduce patient anxiety and allow NHS clinical staff to focus on medical care by unburdening them from non-clinical issues.
If you are interested in supporting major trauma patients on their journey to recovery, this may be the perfect opportunity for you.
We recently received the following feedback from one of our service users demonstrating the value of this role and the difference you can make:
“It’s been a God send, I didn’t know which way to turn until I spoke with you, now we’ve got the help we need. It’s such a relief.“
Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and assertive healthcare practitioner to join our Major Trauma Support Partnership (MTSP) team at our newest site Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH).
Strong candidates will have a relevant health related degree and at least 5 years’ post graduation experience in relevant areas such public or private healthcare / rehabilitation / community care or a case management setting.
In this unique role as an MTSP Patient Support Adviser you will be giving bedside advice, signposting and supporting to patients on a number of different topics, including social welfare, legal, psychological and charitable services. If you are looking for a non hands-on role and to do something different, whilst still using your healthcare knowledge, then this unique role will be of interest to you.
You will be working collaboratively alongside multidisciplinary NHS clinical teams and advice agencies to give patients and their families compassionate advice, guidance, support and the chance of turning a bad day into a slightly better one.
We are offering flexible part time employment; we are looking for one candidate who is able to work 2 days a week, with a competitive salary of up to £37,500 pa (full time equivalent) based upon your experience and skills.
We are seeking one candidate who can work 2 days per week at Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH) (two days being Thursday and Friday).
Background:
The Major Trauma Support Partnership (MTSP) delivers an innovative service for NHS Major Trauma Centre patients and their families. The service has been running since 2016 and is currently available at twelve NHS Major Trauma Centres (MTC).
When people suffer a major trauma, their entire life can be dramatically changed, sometimes forever. The MTSP facilitates patients and families getting bedside access to advice on issues such as state benefits, housing, mental health, charity support and how legal support can help to improve their rehabilitation journey.
To deliver this service we are seeking to employ one MTSP Patient Support Adviser to join the existing team and help to run our service at Royal Sussex County Hospital. The successful candidate will have a ‘can do’ attitude, be flexible, assertive, have strong clinical and communication skills, whilst being empathetic to the needs of patients and their families.
We are offering the right candidate a competitive salary, flexible working times, funded CPD and pension contribution. To be successful, you will probably be an Allied Health Professional, have understanding of multi-agency care, supporting patients (and their families) with complex or traumatic injuries and be ready to take a step away from ‘hands-on’ patient care.
A background as a personal injury case manager, exercise rehabilitation practitioner, Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist would be beneficial, but above all, it is your ability to communicate effectively with senior healthcare practitioners, show empathy, understanding and compassion to major trauma patients and their families, helping them navigate through the challenges they face after trauma. Most importantly being self motivated and practically minded really counts.
Although this is a non clinical / non hands-on role, you will be the catalyst that improves the patient pathway and delivers improved clinical outcomes for patients and the NHS.
After an initial telephone interview, face to face interviews will be held at Royal Sussex County Hospital in May 2026 – date to be confirmed. Applicants should state in their application if they are unavailable around this time.
