Apprenticeship Details

Apprenticeship standard: Quantity Surveying (Chartered Surveyor)

Level: 6

Qualification: BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying (Chartered Surveyor)

Anticipated start: Mid-August 2026

Course start: September 2026

Training provider: University of West London

Duration: 5 years

Off‑the‑job training: 20%, delivered through structured learning and provider‑led study

Progression: The Level 6 Chartered Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship provides a RICS‑accredited degree and the structured training required for the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). On completion of the apprenticeship, you will be eligible to progress to the APC interview to obtain RICS Chartered Status (MRICS).

·Year 1 – Tuesday: 9am to 6pm

·Year 2 – Thursday:  9am to 6pm

·Year 3 – Wednesday: 9am to 6pm

·Year 4 – Monday: 12 noon to 4pm

·Year 5 –  Monday: 9am to 1pm.

Job overview

A Quantity Surveying Technician Apprentice at Durkan Ltd will support the Commercial team in delivering Regeneration projects from procurement through to final account. This is a development role designed for someone at the start of their career who is keen to learn, gain hands‑on experience, and work towards a recognised qualification.

 

During your time, it will be expected that you will become able to carry out commercial duties, from project from procurement to final account. You will assist with the daily running and management of the project reporting to the lead QS, and will learn how to work to rigid timescales, financial deadlines and budget values.

 

You will work closely with the Project QS, Senior QS and Commercial Manager, assisting with day‑to‑day commercial tasks while developing your technical knowledge, confidence and professional skills. Full training and support will be provided throughout the apprenticeship.

 

The successful candidate will become commercially aware and influence individual teams/cross departmental to insure the best commercial returns are maintained while ensuring a successful project is delivered.

Main responsibilities

Commercial plans and strategy

  • Learn to understand our contractual obligations and support the team in meeting them
  • Communicate within the Commercial, Technical & Construction teams, as required during the project to support successful delivery.
  • Attend site visits and progress meetings as required
  • Work with Subcontracts, Suppliers and Clients.

 

Procurement

  • Support with the preparation of procurement schedules. Liaise with the team in assessing package contents and release dates required, considering contract obligations, specifications and budget expectations/tender logic
  • Support in preparing a list of suitable subcontractors for tenders, ensure, HS&Q, financial security and design expertise/suitability is considered.
  • Assist in preparing subcontract tender enquiries, analysing, selecting appropriate capable Subcontractors, finalising and formal placing of Subcontract orders

Financial Reporting, administration, and control.

  • Assist with setting commercial budgets including prelims.
  • Monitor and review accordingly.
  • Help maintain accurate financial records
  • Assist with contract administration and management.
  • Assist with the preparations of forecasts, targets and CVR reconciliations on monthly basis.
  • Financial & commercially manage to subcontract account from the start to final account, and all applicable sub-contractor and materials matters.
  • Support the wider team in preparing client valuations
  • Undertake all necessary site measurements
  • Administer all commercial duties

 

Insurances/warranties

  • Develop and understanding of contract requirements and obligations-
  • Support the team in ensuring we adhere to these.

 

Reporting

  • Assist in ensuring that timely, accurate and independent reports are issued to meet the wider Company reporting requirements.
  • Liaise with Finance team as and when required.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions on project matters to estimators and contribute to continuous improvement

Entry Requirements

  • ·GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
  • ·5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, AND

·112 UCAS tariff points (2017 UCAS Tariff) or an equivalent level or attainment through recognised qualifications not included in the UCAS tariff

·OR minimum of three A2 levels at Grade C or higher or their equivalent

·OR Level 3 apprenticeship in a construction or property related discipline

·OR a current RICS Associate qualification

You will also be considered if you have the following educational background:

  • ·Progression or Advanced Diploma in Construction and the built environment
  • Progression or Advanced Diploma in Engineering
  • Must have the right to work in the UK and have lived in the UK/EEA for the past 3 years.
  • A full UK driving licence or the ability to travel to Ealing and occasionally to Head Office in Borehamwood

Desirable

  • ·Basic understanding of construction
  • ·Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
