The role

Working in our Preference Services team as our Consumer Executive Apprentice, you will support the delivery of services that help consumers manage their marketing preferences while assisting organisations in meeting their responsibilities under data protection and privacy legislation. Working alongside an experienced and supportive team, you will develop valuable skills in customer service, administration, stakeholder engagement, complaint handling and data management.
The data protection landscape is constantly evolving, driven by legislative change, emerging technologies and changing consumer expectations. This apprenticeship offers hands on experience and the opportunity to learn about the regulations and services that help protect consumer choice.
Working with industry stakeholders, licence holders, service providers and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), you will contribute to services that operate in the public interest while building the knowledge, skills and experience needed for a successful career.
The apprenticeship
- The apprenticeship training will be delivered by JGA Group, and on completion you will achieve the Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship Standard.
- You will spend at least 20% of your working hours undertaking off-the-job training (structured learning which helps you to gain the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed for the role).
- All learning taking place remotely, either from the office or at home, subject to agreement with your line manager.
- The apprenticeship is completed over 15 months, including 12 months of training followed by 3 months of end-point assessment.
- The programme includes monthly full-day seminars, 1:1 skills coaching sessions, portfolio development activities, and online learning designed to help you develop, apply, and demonstrate your knowledge in the workplace.
- Dedicated support is provided throughout by a Tutor, Skills Coach, Learner Progress Advisor, and your line manager.
Role and responsibilities
As part of the Preference Services team, you will support the delivery of services that help consumers manage their marketing preferences and assist organisations in meeting their regulatory obligations.
You will:
- Respond to telephone and email enquiries from consumers and organisations regarding the Preference Services, providing clear and professional support.
- Assist with the handling and administration of consumer complaints, including logging cases, recording company responses, and monitoring progress.
- Prepare and issue correspondence, emails, and other communications to consumers, licence holders and stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records across Preference Services databases, systems and spreadsheets.
- Support the preparation of activity reports and management information as required.
- Help monitor the quality and accuracy of Preference Services data, escalating any issues to the Preference Services Manager.
- Support the processing and distribution of incoming and outgoing mail and other administrative tasks.
- Work with external suppliers and service partners to support the effective operation of the Preference Services.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with relevant legislation, including the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
- Adhere to organisational policies and procedures, including health and safety requirements.
This role provides valuable exposure to consumer protection, data privacy and regulatory services while developing a broad range of administrative, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Key skills and experience
