Description

Summary and Purpose

The CAD Lead Technician is responsible for overseeing the accurate translation of templates into detailed technical drawings using CAD software, ensuring production readiness and compliance with all manufacturing standards. In addition to core CAD responsibilities, the role provides technical leadership within the CAD team—supporting, mentoring, and guiding technicians to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency across all outputs. The CAD Lead Technician plays a key role in driving Right First Time (RFT) performance, OTIF targets, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role also involves managing escalations relating to templating irregularities, coordinating with internal departments and external suppliers, and ensuring that all product data, specifications, and communications are accurate and effectively controlled. The department operates to a CAD priority work queue based on ex-works manufacturing dates. The CAD Lead Technician is accountable for supporting workload planning, prioritisation, and performance against KPIs. The post holder must ensure full compliance with company safety standards, policies, and procedures, while promoting a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Immediate priorities:

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of current CAD processes, workflows, and material applications.

• Demonstrate advanced competency in Stone Pro software and associated systems.

• Understand in-depth knowledge of manufacturing tolerances, specifications, and fabrication constraints.

• Take ownership of KPI tracking, validation, and reporting accuracy within the team.

Main Responsibilities:

•Lead the creation and validation of high-quality, detailed technical drawings from digital and physical templates.

• Oversee and support team output to ensure workload is managed effectively against CAD queues and OTIF targets.

• Act as the first point of escalation for complex or non-conforming templates, ensuring resolution prior to customer approval and RTM.

• Collaborate closely with sales, subcontractors, and production teams to resolve technical queries and improve template accuracy.

• Liaise with the production office on complex or bespoke fabrication designs, ensuring manufacturability and efficiency.

• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to CAD Technicians to enhance capability and consistency.

• Monitor team performance against KPIs, identifying trends and implementing corrective actions where required.

• Drive continuous improvement (CI) initiatives to reduce CSF’s and improve operational efficiency within the Worksurfaces division.

• Support standardisation of CAD processes, documentation, and best practices.

• Address live production issues promptly, ensuring minimal disruption and effective resolution.

• Ensure all product specifications and data sheets are accurate, up to date, and correctly managed.

• Champion a culture of customer excellence, delivering high standards to both internal and external stakeholders.

• Develop strong understanding of H&S requirements and ensure compliance within CAD and production interface areas.

• Support team development in digitising physical templates and appliance integration.

• Ensure all non-conforming issues are captured, investigated, and resolved through SMR procedures.

• Drive high standards of housekeeping and organisation within the CAD department.

• Promote best practice and compliance with safe working procedures and policies.
