Description

We are looking for a detail-focused and commercially aware Marine Estimator to join our team.

The role can be based in Aberdeen, Greenock or Leith (with travel as required), this is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in estimating, technical pricing, ship repair, fabrication, marine engineering or a related environment to play a key role in preparing accurate and competitive tender submissions for a wide range of marine and engineering projects.

About the Role

  • You will review client enquiries, specifications, drawings, vessel information, survey reports and scopes of work to understand project requirements.
  • You will prepare detailed cost estimates for ship repair, maintenance, refit, conversion, fabrication, mechanical, piping, electrical, coatings and subcontracted services.
  • You will carry out quantity take-offs, measurements and labour-hour assessments from technical drawings and project documentation.
  • You will obtain, compare and assess quotations from suppliers, subcontractors and specialist marine service providers.
  • You will prepare technical and commercial proposals, tender summaries, cost breakdowns, bid clarification responses and supporting documentation for client submission.
  • You will identify commercial, technical, programme, safety, access and delivery risks, clearly setting out assumptions and exclusions.
  • You will liaise with clients, ship owners, ship managers, classification bodies, suppliers, subcontractors, project managers, production teams, procurement and engineering colleagues.
  • You will support tender reviews, bid handovers and project mobilisation by clearly communicating scope, pricing assumptions, risks, lead times and key deliverables.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in estimating, quantity surveying, ship repair, shipyard, marine engineering, offshore, fabrication or technical pricing.
  • Strong understanding of marine or engineering environments, including vessel maintenance, refit, fabrication, mechanical systems, piping, coatings, electrical works or subcontracted services.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, vessel specifications, scopes of work, survey reports and tender documents.
  • Good commercial awareness, numerical ability and attention to detail, with the confidence to assess costs, risks, assumptions and exclusions.
  • Strong communication, organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office; experience with estimating software, AutoCAD, take-off tools or marine-specific systems would be advantageous.
  • A relevant qualification would be desirable, although suitable industry experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.
