Purpose
We are looking for a practical, people-focused and supportive People Partner to join our team and provide trusted People support across the business.
This is a hands-on generalist role where you’ll work closely with managers and team members across the employee lifecycle, providing advice, coaching and practical support across employee relations, recruitment, performance, policies, team experience and day-to-day People matters.
You’ll be joining the team at an exciting time as we implement our new HRIS, Employment Hero, continue to develop and embed our People processes, and bring our company values to life: Dedication, Accountability, Integrity, Support, Hospitality and Standards.
This is a great opportunity to play a key role in shaping how we support our people, how our People function operates as we grow, and how our values are embedded into the everyday team member experience.
This is a hybrid role, giving you the flexibility to manage your own time between working from home and working from our hotels. Being present in our hotels will be an important part of the role, providing in-person support to managers and teams and building strong relationships across the business.
Key Responsibilities
People Operations
- Act as a trusted first point of contact for day-to-day People and HR queries from managers and team members, providing practical advice or connecting them with the right support.
- Support the full team member lifecycle, including probation, changes to employment terms, promotions, flexible working, family leave, internal moves and leavers.
- Prepare and manage employment documentation, including contracts, variations, letters and other HR correspondence, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Support the payroll process in partnership with the payroll team, ensuring team member changes and information are accurate and processed on time.
- Ensure People processes are followed consistently and identify opportunities to simplify and improve the team member experience.
Compliance & Policy
- Keep up to date with changes in employment legislation, regulations and HR best practice, assessing their impact on the business.
- Support the Head of People with reviewing and updating People policies and processes to ensure they remain legally compliant, practical and fit for purpose.
- Develop clear, accessible guidance, templates and resources to help managers confidently navigate People matters.
- Translate legislation and People policies into practical advice that managers and team members can understand and apply.
- Identify areas of People-related risk and recommend improvements where appropriate.
Employee Relations
- Provide practical, trusted advice and coaching to managers on a broad range of employee relations matters, including performance, absence, capability, conduct, disciplinary and grievance issues.
- Provide hands-on support with ER cases, including investigations, disciplinary and grievance processes, performance management and long-term absence.
- Ensure employee relations matters are managed appropriately, consistently and in line with company policies and employment legislation.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case documentation and provide appropriate updates and reporting to the Head of People.
- Identify recurring themes and risks across ER activity and use these insights to improve manager capability, policies and People processes.
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Partner with managers throughout the recruitment process, providing practical advice and support on role design, advertising, shortlisting, interviewing, selection and offers.
- Help ensure recruitment decisions and processes are fair, consistent and aligned with our values and employment practices.
- Coordinate a smooth and engaging onboarding experience, ensuring new team members have everything they need to feel welcomed, supported and set up for success.
- Work with managers to continuously improve recruitment and onboarding processes and contribute to strengthening our employer brand.
- Support managers to build their confidence and capability in recruitment, interviewing and effective selection.
Performance & Development
- Support managers with effective performance management, including setting expectations, providing feedback, managing underperformance and recognising strong performance.
- Support the delivery of performance review and development processes across the business.
- Coach managers to have meaningful conversations about development, capability and career growth.
- Work with the People team to coordinate learning activity and maximise the use of the LMS to support development and compliance, and ensure records are accurate and up to date.
- Help identify learning and development needs and support the delivery of relevant initiatives and training.
Systems & Processes
- Support the implementation and ongoing development of Employment Hero, helping to ensure the system is embedded effectively across the business, and becoming a platform superuser.
- Support regular People reporting and analysis, using data and insights to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
- Develop, document and improve People processes, ensuring they are practical, consistent and easy for managers and team members to navigate.
- Look for opportunities to streamline manual processes, improve the use of technology and enhance the team member experience.
Other
- Support and lead People projects that align with the wider business and People strategy.
- Contribute to team member engagement activities, listening initiatives and actions that improve the overall team member experience.
- Support organisational change and other business initiatives where there is a significant People impact.
- Bring new ideas, challenge existing ways of working and continuously look for ways to improve the People function.
- Any other reasonable duties are requested.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who is confident operating as a true HR generalist, who enjoys being close to the business and working in partnership with managers.
You will combine strong technical HR knowledge with a pragmatic, approachable and solutions-focused style. You’ll be comfortable dealing with sensitive and complex team member matters, but equally happy rolling up your sleeves and getting involved in the day-to-day detail.
You will be comfortable working in an evolving environment and will enjoy the opportunity to help shape our People processes, rather than simply following established ones.
- Experience working in a People Partner, HR Advisor or HR Generalist role.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and practical experience applying it in the workplace.
- Experience advising on a broad range of team member relations matters.
- Strong manager coaching and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively when needed.
- Experience supporting recruitment and the wider team member lifecycle.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex People matters clearly and practically.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly when managing confidential and sensitive information.
- A proactive approach, with the ability to spot issues and opportunities rather than simply respond to requests.
- Experience working with HRIS and People systems; experience with Employment Hero would be beneficial but isn’t essential.
- A genuine interest in creating great team member experiences and helping managers become more confident and capable people leaders.
- CIPD Level 3 or 5 (or working towards), or equivalent experience.
