Description

Purpose

The Assistant Scheduler plays a key role in overseeing multiple operational systems and managing a dynamic scheduling environment. As part of the coaching team, the postholder provides essential support to the Transport Manager and the wider coaching department, including coordination with all 33 coach drivers.

Due to the varied nature of transport operations, this role requires flexibility. While not exhaustive, the following outlines the core responsibilities associated with the position.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Scheduling Manager in coordinating and allocating all Daish’s drivers
  • Efficiently manage driver and vehicle resources to meet operational demands
  • Produce driver schedules up to 7 days in advance, ensuring alignment with business requirements
  • Ensure full compliance with driver hours regulations in line with DVSA policies and current legislation
  • Allocate the right drivers to the right locations at the appropriate times
  • Oversee routing and real-time tracking of company coaches
  • Monitor and manage driver performance and attendance
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all drivers
  • Identify operational challenges, risks, and opportunities for improvement
  • Handle queries and complaints professionally, resolving issues in a timely manner
  • Arrange and manage driver accommodation, ferry bookings, and associated logistics
  • Liaise with subcontracted coach companies to ensure service continuity

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday, office-based: 08:00 – 16:00
  • Participation in a 1-in-4 weekend on-call rota
  • When on-call, one day off will be provided in the preceding week and one in the following week

Professional Experience & Competencies

  • Proven ability to operate in a high-volume, service-driven transport environment
  • Strong understanding of transport compliance, driver hours regulations, and fleet control
  • Working knowledge of transport operational systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships across all levels
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Effective problem-solving and prioritisation abilities
  • Demonstrated people management skills
