Welder-Fabricator

About the Role

Comfy Group is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fabricator / Welder to join our Engineering Department. This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the manufacture, maintenance and continuous improvement of production equipment across one of the UK’s leading bedding manufacturers. You will work within our engineering workshop and across the factory, manufacturing bespoke machine components, carrying out welding and fabrication work, operating manual machine tools, supporting machinery breakdowns and playing a key role in engineering improvement projects. No two days are the same.

Key Responsibilities

• Manufacture bespoke machine components, guards, frameworks, brackets and conveyors.
• Carry out MIG welding and general fabrication to a high standard.
• Operate manual centre lathes, milling machines and other workshop equipment.
• Mechanical fitting and assembly of fabricated components.
• Manufacture replacement machine parts from engineering drawings.
• Repair rollers, shafts, bearing housings and other production equipment.
• Support mechanical breakdowns where fabrication or machining expertise is required.
• Assist with machinery modifications, installations and continuous improvement projects.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings accurately.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and health & safety within the workshop.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Time-served Welder/Fabricator, Mechanical Engineer or recognised engineering apprenticeship.
• Strong MIG welding and fabrication experience.
• Experience operating manual centre lathes and milling machines.
• Mechanical fitting experience.
• Ability to manufacture components from engineering drawings.
• Experience repairing industrial machinery and production equipment.
• Strong practical problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail and pride in producing quality workmanship.
• Flexible approach and willingness to support engineering projects and breakdowns.

Desirable

• Manufacturing, FMCG or textile industry experience.
• Experience with conveyors, rollers, bearings and shafts.
• Forklift, MEWP or Abrasive Wheels certificates.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
