Warehouse Supervisor  – Role Overview

Who we are looking for:

We are looking to strengthen our operational team with a Warehouse Supervisor at our new Middleton location. The successful candidate will lead a small team and oversee the day-to-day warehouse operation, ensuring activities run smoothly and performance targets are achieved.

You will play a key role in coordinating operational activity, maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency, and ensuring customer orders are fulfilled on time. This role requires strong people management skills, effective communication, practical problem-solving ability, and a proactive approach to driving team performance.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a small warehouse team to ensure operational and performance targets are achieved and customer orders are dispatched on time.
  • Undertake first-line management responsibilities including absence management, performance management and employee engagement.
  • Oversee the accurate handling, picking, packing and despatch of stock.
  • Coordinate and prioritise operational activities across shifts to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Work closely with other departments and communicate effectively with managers and operational teams.
  • Maintain internal operational standards and ensure customer service requirements are consistently met.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, setting clear expectations and leading by example.
  • Proactively identify operational issues and implement practical solutions, encouraging team input and participation.
  • Support the planning, delivery and monitoring of staff training to develop team capability and flexibility.
  • Maintain accurate housekeeping and data integrity within the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
  • Ensure clear and comprehensive shift handovers.
  • Monitor operational performance, reporting on productivity, quality and service levels.
  • Plan and organise shift rotas and staffing levels to meet operational demands.
  • Ensure team members adhere to all Health & Safety procedures, maintaining safe working practices and high housekeeping standards.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • Strong organisational, leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience setting objectives and managing teams to achieve operational targets.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability with strong attention to detail.
  • Confidence in handling sensitive conversations and managing difficult situations appropriately.
  • Solid operational warehouse knowledge.
  • Ability to develop and motivate a skilled, flexible team with a strong customer focus.
  • The ability to prioritise workload effectively and adapt to changing operational requirements.
  • Strong planning skills with a focus on delivering results and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in IT systems and standard business software.
  • Experience in using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) is highly advantageouse (experience with Snapfulfil and Orderwise would be beneficial).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work varying shift patterns to support operational requirements.
  • A full UK driving licence would be advantageous.
