About My Client

My client is an independent, food-led country pub and restaurant in Fenny Bridges, East Devon, combining traditional character with a strong reputation for quality food and hospitality.

The business welcomes local customers, families, tourists, walkers, cyclists and guests staying at the 10-bedroom country inn. The venue also benefits from a large garden with over 100 outside seats and a busy seasonal trade.

The kitchen focuses on quality, seasonal ingredients and well-executed country-pub food — generous, beautifully presented dishes that are cooked properly and consistently.

The Role

We’re looking for a passionate, hands-on Sous Chef to work closely with the Head Chef and owners, helping to lead the kitchen and maintain high standards throughout service.

You’ll have genuine opportunity to contribute ideas, develop seasonal dishes and play an important role in the future direction of the food offering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook high-quality country-pub food
  • Support and lead the kitchen team during service
  • Run busy services calmly and efficiently
  • Support menu development and seasonal specials
  • Manage food preparation, stock control and minimise waste
  • Maintain excellent food hygiene and kitchen standards
  • Train and encourage junior members of the team
  • Work closely with the Head Chef and owners
  • Take pride in every plate leaving the kitchen

Kitchen Team

You’ll join an established brigade consisting of:

  • 1 Head Chef
  • 2 Sous Chefs
  • 1 Chef de Partie
  • 1 Kitchen Porter

What We’re Looking For

We’re not necessarily looking for someone from a fine-dining background. We’re looking for someone who understands great country-pub food.

You’ll ideally be:

  • An experienced Chef or Sous Chef
  • Passionate about cooking and quality ingredients
  • A natural leader who leads by example
  • Calm and organised under pressure
  • Reliable and hardworking
  • Comfortable working in a busy kitchen
  • Interested in menu development and contributing ideas
  • Proud of the food you produce
  • Someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality

This is an opportunity for someone who wants to make their mark within an established independent business.
