The Opportunity

My client is seeking an organised and passionate Chef to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the kitchen within a residential care setting.

As the sole chef on shift, you’ll have the autonomy to plan menus, prepare fresh home-cooked meals, manage stock, and ensure residents receive nutritious, well-balanced food that caters for individual preferences and dietary requirements.

This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys cooking from scratch and takes pride in providing excellent food and service.

The Role

Working closely with the Home Manager, you will oversee all aspects of the kitchen operation, ensuring meals are prepared to a consistently high standard while maintaining excellent food hygiene and safety practices.

You’ll play an important part in creating enjoyable mealtimes that positively contribute to residents’ quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan weekly menus within agreed budgets
  • Prepare and cook fresh, nutritious lunches and evening meals
  • Cater for individual dietary requirements and personal preferences
  • Maintain consistently high food quality and presentation
  • Order food supplies and manage stock efficiently
  • Minimise waste through effective stock rotation
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic kitchen
  • Complete all food safety and kitchen compliance documentation
  • Ensure all Health & Safety, HACCP and food hygiene standards are met
  • Monitor kitchen equipment and report maintenance issues
  • Work closely with management to ensure an excellent dining experience for residents

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience as a Chef or Care Home Chef
  • Experience preparing fresh, home-cooked meals
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen safety procedures
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload
  • Experience catering for special dietary requirements is desirable
  • A caring, patient and friendly approach
  • Pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food quality
