The Role

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Transport Supervisor to support the day-to-day operations of our busy transport department at our Telford Location. Working closely with the Transport Manager, you’ll oversee route planning, vehicle compliance, and driver management — ensuring deliveries and collections run smoothly, safely, and on time. This is a hands-on role, requiring flexibility to step in and drive when needed, along with the ability to coach, develop, and lead a team to deliver outstanding performance.

Key Responsibilities

Route Planning & Operations

  • Support the Transport Manager in planning and optimising delivery and collection routes.
  • Monitor and adjust routes in response to traffic, customer needs, or operational priorities.
  • Assist with daily transport operations to ensure efficiency, safety, and service excellence.

Vehicle Compliance & Maintenance

  • Ensure all vehicles meet legal and company standards for safety, cleanliness, and maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle records, including inspections, servicing, and repairs.
  • Liaise with maintenance providers to schedule and monitor vehicle servicing.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise, motivate, and support a team of drivers, fostering a positive and high-performance culture.
  • Assist with driver training, briefings, and ongoing development.
  • Address performance or conduct issues fairly and promptly.

Driving & Cover Duties

  • Undertake driving duties as needed to maintain delivery schedules or cover absences.

Compliance & Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate records of routes, schedules, vehicle checks, and incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with all transport legislation and company procedures.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Support the Transport Manager in delivering excellent customer service, resolving any transport-related issues quickly and professionally.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, depot teams, and customers to ensure smooth operations.

Technology & Reporting

  • Use transport management systems and Microsoft Office tools to track performance, analyse data, and produce reports.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a transport supervisory or team leader role (preferably in logistics, delivery, or industrial services).
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with a focus on people and performance.
  • Sound knowledge of route planning, driver hours regulations, and vehicle maintenance requirements.
  • Confident leader with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Proficiency with basic IT systems (Excel, Word, and transport management software).
  • Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable but not essential).
