Community Fundraiser – South West and South Wales

Role Purpose and Context:
One in three people in the UK knows someone affected by a brain tumour. This disease is indiscriminate; it can affect anyone at any age. What’s more, brain tumours continue to kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer yet, to date, just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease since records began in 2002.
Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this.
A powerful campaigning organisation, we are the leading voice of the brain tumour community. Unique and much needed, we are the only national charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. Brain Tumour Research is campaigning to increase the national investment in research into brain tumours to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK.

Brain Tumour Research is an ambitious charity with a diverse range of exciting and fast-paced campaigns and activities. Our Community Fundraising Team is at the heart of everything we do, and responsible for income generated through Challenge Events, Regional Workplace Fundraising, Fundraise your Way (including schools, individuals and community groups), Fundraising Groups and our flagship campaigns which are Walk of Hope and Wear A Hat Day.
As the Community Fundraiser for South West and South Wales, you will play a crucial role in helping the charity meet its strategic plans and objectives, including fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK.
Your role will be to generate and grow our income through community fundraising activities, contributing to a regional team target of £900,000.
Strategic Responsibilities:
This role is responsible for achieving the following key areas, which support the delivery of the department’s and organisation’s objectives.
- Recruit and steward community supporters across the South West and South Wales — Build and grow a portfolio of individual supporters, challenge event participants, Fundraising Groups and Charity of the Year partners across the region providing excellent stewardship at every stage to retain supporters and maximise their fundraising
- Drive income growth to contribute to regional targets — Proactively seek and maximise new fundraising opportunities within your area, managing your own pipeline of activity to contribute to a regional team target
- Support delivery of key campaigns and events — Support Brain Tumour Research’s flagship campaigns, including Wear a Hat Day and Walk of Hope, as well as challenge and sporting events, coordinating logistics, volunteer support and follow-up to ensure an outstanding supporter experience and strong fundraising outcomes
- Raise awareness and build lasting partnerships — Act as an ambassador for Brain Tumour Research across the region, engaging local communities, businesses and organisations with the charity’s work, securing new partnerships and working collaboratively with internal teams including PR, Marketing and Research to amplify impact and grow the supporter base
Main Duties:

- Ensure supporters, volunteers and fundraising groups have access to relevant fundraising advice, guidance and accurate signposting, whilst promoting best practice in fundraising
- Research and manage a pipeline of opportunities across community fundraising within your region, identifying new opportunities and developing existing income streams
- Attend networking events, representing the organisation whilst building relationships and meaningful connections to broaden our supporter base
- Communicate impact, share approved case studies, updates and engage supporters in activities to strengthen their relationship with Brain Tumour Research
- Manage, and continuously develop your region through excellent stewarding of existing supporters, regional social media and recruitment of new supporters, including securing new partnerships such as charity of the year and Fundraising Groups
- Support the formation of volunteer fundraising groups, with the aim of maximising the funds they raise
- Co-ordinate the recruitment and appropriate use of volunteers to support local fundraising
- Maintain relationships with current supporters, while building relationships with new supporters
- Work collaboratively with the Fundraising Team, generating ideas and solutions in order to meet financial target and support others meet their targets
- Communicate with different departments, sharing knowledge to support the wider team to meet top level objectives
- Keep our CRM database up to date with information about our supporters and their fundraising activities
- Engage with medical teams at neuro hospitals within your area in order to organise information stands on brain tumour clinic days to ensure the charity is known to patients and their families
- Assist the Fundraising Team with any other tasks as determined by Director of Income Generation and Development

- Income generation — Contribute to and help achieve the regional team target of more than £900,000 per year, with individual area income targets set and reviewed regularly in line with the broader fundraising strategy
- Supporter recruitment and retention — Meet agreed targets for recruiting new supporters, Fundraising Groups and Charity of the Year partnerships across the region, alongside maintaining strong retention rates through excellent stewardship
- Campaign and event performance — Deliver measurable growth in participation and income for key campaigns (Wear a Hat Day and Walk of Hope) and challenge events year on year, tracked against agreed targets
- CRM data quality and supporter engagement — Maintain a fully up-to-date and accurate CRM database, with supporter records, communications and fundraising activity logged consistently, and supporter satisfaction/engagement reflected through repeat giving and ongoing involvement

Review and Performance:
We are committed to the continuous review of all roles and to the development of our employees. The post holder will take part in a Performance Review on an annual basis in June/July supported by quarterly check ins (October, January and April). In addition to this all roles will on an annual basis be subject to a salary review.
Job Descriptions, will as a minimum, be subject to an annual review at the July Performance Review, but where appropriate can be reviewed outside of this timeframe, subject to role developments and requests from both employees and line managers.
