Description

Job Purpose:                   

The Network Engineer at the Associated Asphalt Group is expected to be customer-focused, ensuring high-quality IT service while providing first and second-line support to all users. Your principal responsibility will be the upkeep and installation of the organisation’s network systems, encompassing both software and hardware installation, maintenance, and issue resolution as well as improving the infrastructure in the group.

Expected working hours:

10am – 7pm or 12pm – 9pm

Responsibilities:             

  • Deliver detailed reports on IT infrastructure concerns, underlining primary risks and problem areas.
  • Keep management updated on the progress and status of ongoing IT projects.
  • Provide first and second line technical support to all users, resolving issues promptly and escalating when necessary.
  • Assist in the training and development of IT apprentices for career progression and independency in IT roles.
  • Optimise IT processes.
  • Manage IT issuance list.
  • Supervise IT contracts with suppliers to guarantee the best possible deals and report them upwards.
  • Furnish maintenance and project support, whether remote or on-site.
  • Handle software installations and server upkeep, ensuring efficient operation across the business.
  • Maintain server and networking infrastructure uptime and patching within business standards.
  • Ensure adherence to Cyber Essentials Plus.
  • Ensure adherence to ISO 27001 standards.
  • Liaise with external IT consultants as needed.
  • Assist in the creation and management of a server file structure and access.
  • Assist in testing a disaster recovery plan and ensure business continuity.
  • Constantly review and suggest refinements to IT processes.

 

Accountability:         

  • Starter and leaver process.
  • MDM enrolment and maintenance.
  • Print management.
  • First and Second-Line Support.
  • Server management, resource allocation and upkeep.
  • Networking infrastructure management, maintenance and implementation.

 

           

External relationships and communication:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key IT suppliers/vendors.

 

Internal relationships and communications:  

  • Collaborate effectively with members of staff at all levels of the organisation.
  • Be proactive in supporting where possible and appropriate including improvement suggestions.

 

 

Key measures and targets:   

To be agreed at appraisal and in weekly one to ones and to include as a minimum:

  • Issue resolution times.
  • Network uptime and performance.
  • Staff satisfaction with IT support.
  • Apprentice progression.

 

Knowledge and Experience – Desirable:

  • IT-related qualification, HNC level or above, or equivalent.

Education and Training – Desirable:

  • Proven experience in an IT support environment, including first-line support.
  • MS Server management 2019, 2022, or 2025.
  • Ubiquiti adoption and implementation fundamentals.
  • Firewall configuration and deployment experience.
  • VLAN development and implementation.
  • Familiarity with working with peripatetic workers.
  • Knowledge in IT support and service management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Admin Portal.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Comprehensive understanding of security principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to think clearly, prioritise tasks, problem-solve, and devise creative solutions.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills.
  • Strong desire to carry out proactive IT support.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and constructively.
