Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Power Systems Engineer to join a power distribution consultancy firm with an excellent reputation for the excellence of their output. As a Power Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing high voltage (HV) distribution projects. Your expertise in power systems engineering will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of these projects. This role is available on either a hybrid or fully remote basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct power systems studies – load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, protective device coordination studies, dynamic stability and transient harmonics using power systems software tools, such as DigSilent or ETAP
  • Develop detailed specifications for HV equipment procurement based on project requirements
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and technicians to ensure effective project execution
  • Provide technical guidance during the installation phase of HV distribution projects
  • Analyse network issues and performance problems, proposing technically robust and cost-effective solutions
  • Analyse generation connections
  • Issue jobs for witness testing
  • Undertake site visits when appropriate

Experience:

  • In-depth knowledge of power systems engineering principles and practices – specifically working on HV distribution projects
  • Proficiency in using power system analysis software, such as DigSilent, PSCAD, ETAP, NEPLAN or PSS/E
  • Knowledge of G99, G5/5, P28, Electricity Network Regulations and NERS, DNO / Grid Code for protection settings
  • Strong understanding of HV distribution equipment and technologies
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with the capacity to analyse complex electrical systems
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and clients
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is highly desirable
