HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER

Fogo Island Co-operative Society Ltd.

Location: Fogo Island, Newfoundland and Labrador

About the Fogo Island Co-op

The Fogo Island Co-operative Society Ltd. is a community-owned fisheries co-operative with a proud history dating back to 1967.

At a time when Fogo Island communities were facing economic decline and the possibility of resettlement, local residents came together to build their own future through co-operation, fishing, processing and community enterprise.

Today, the Co-op operates multiple fish processing facilities and other community-based businesses, providing employment and economic opportunities for fish harvesters, plant workers and families throughout Fogo Island. Our products include Atlantic cod, snow crab, shrimp, Greenland halibut, sea cucumber and other North Atlantic seafood.

As we approach our 60th anniversary, we remain committed to supporting local employment, strengthening our organization and building a sustainable future for the next generation.

  • Administer employee compensation, annual wage reviews, benefits and related HR programs.
  • Maintain HR policies, procedures, job descriptions and confidential personnel records.
  • Support employee training, development and succession planning.
  • Ensure HR practices comply with applicable employment legislation and collective agreements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in human resources, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of employee relations, collective agreements and recruitment.
  • Good understanding of employment legislation and HR practices.
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound judgment, discretion and the ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field would be an asset.
  • Experience in fisheries, manufacturing or seasonal operations would also be beneficial.
