BOARD OF ADVISORS — Elder Representative

Position Type: Board of Advisor (Advisory / Non-employee role)

Commitment: 1 meeting per quarter (2 hours)

Term: 1–2 years (renewable)

Purpose of the Board of Advisors: To provide strategic guidance, expert insight, and community perspectives that support the organization’s mission, credibility, sustainability, and impact. Advisory Board members do not hold legal governance authority, but provide recommendations and professional advice.

Role Overview

The Elder Representative brings wisdom, cultural knowledge, and community guidance to help the organization operate with dignity, ethics, and respect for diverse backgrounds. The Elder may support culturally safe practices, community relationship building, and decision-making grounded in tradition and lived experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide cultural guidance and community-based insight.
  • Encourage respectful, inclusive, and culturally safe practices.
  • Offer perspective on ethical concerns, community impact, and identity-based considerations.
  • Attend quarterly meetings and review materials as needed.
  • Support relationship-building with cultural/community partners (optional).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recognized Elder or respected community leader.
  • Strong understanding of community issues and cultural safety.
  • Ability to advise with compassion, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Comfort participating in group discussions and providing guidance.

Confidentiality

  • Members must maintain confidentiality for all sensitive information discussed.

Conflict of Interest

  • Members must disclose any conflicts and avoid participating in decisions where conflicts exist.

Professional Conduct

  • Advisors are expected to communicate respectfully and contribute constructively.
