🏢 About Buildscout

Buildscout empowers property and construction professionals by transforming planning application data into valuable business opportunities. Backed by Searchland – the UK’s leading B2B PropTech platform – we’re scaling rapidly and expanding the impact of our product.

We’re now hiring a Senior Product Designer (UI/UX) to elevate how users interact with our data-rich, insight-driven platform. You’ll partner closely with our Product Manager, Senior Engineer, Commercial Director, and wider Searchland team to craft intuitive, functional experiences that deliver real customer value.

🎯 What You’ll Do

  • Design Product Experiences End-to-End
    • Lead design across the full product lifecycle: from problem framing through to shipped solutions and iteration
    • Create low-fidelity  wireframes and flows to explore ideas quickly during discovery.
    • Produce high-fidelity UI designs, prototypes, and interaction patterns that bring solutions to life.
    • Iterate designs based on user feedback, internal reviews, and technical input from engineering.
    • Challenge assumptions and push for clarity when problems are vague or poorly defined
  •  Maintain & Evolve the Design System
    • Own the upkeep of new components, patterns, and UX guidelines to our design system as the platform evolves.
    • Work with engineering to ensure components are implemented consistently and remain scalable.
    • Identify re-usable patterns that make the product faster to build and easier to use
  • Collaborate Closely With Product & Engineering
    • Work with Product and Engineering to define what we should build, not just how it looks
    • Help shape the product roadmap, not just sprint delivery
    • Provide engineering-ready assets and support developers during implementation to ensure high-quality delivery.
    • Run regular UX audits to identify areas where consistency or usability needs to be improved.
  • Measure & Improve What You Ship
    • Review analytics, session recordings, and qualitative feedback after releases to understand how users interact with new features.
    • Identify UX issues or opportunities for newly released features,  Own iteration and proposed improvements.
    • Focus on outcomes (activation, conversion, retention), not just outputs.

🌟  You Are:

  • Organised – Keeping roadmaps, priorities, and timelines crystal clear.
  • Forward-thinking – Anticipating user and industry needs before they become urgent.
  • Decisive & confident – Comfortable making calls and owning them.
  • Opinionated – You have a clear view on what good looks like and can defend it
  • Product-minded – You think in terms of user value, not just UI

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-moving startup environment and brings a mix of strategic thinking, organisation, and innovative design skills. You’ll be designing for a data-heavy product used by busy contractors. The key challenge is turning raw planning data into something actionable, fast, and commercially valuable.

🎯 Essential Experience

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • 5+ years in Product Design or UI/UX roles, ideally within SaaS or startups.
  • Strong portfolio clearly showing end-to-end ownership, demonstrates systems thinking, design process, and problem-solving in complex products.
  • Proficiency with Figma for wireframes, flows, prototypes, and design system components.
  • Experience collaborating closely with engineering in agile sprint environments.

➕ Desired Experience

  • Exposure to PropTech, B2B tools, or data-heavy interfaces.
  • Understanding of front-end principles (e.g., component-driven development, responsive design, constraints).
  • Familiarity with the UK property/land market.
