Role Overview
The WiMAX & Fibre Field Engineer is responsible for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of wireless (WiMAX) and fibre-based broadband infrastructure across holiday parks, leisure sites, and marina environments.
This is a hands-on, field-based role delivering critical connectivity services that enable residential, guest Wi-Fi, and operational park systems. The engineer operates in a fast-paced, reactive environment where quality of installation, responsiveness, and customer experience are key.
The role supports VFAST national deployment programme, ensuring consistent, scalable, and high-quality network installations aligned to standard designs, health & safety requirements, and service delivery SLAs.

Key Responsibilities
Installation & Deployment:
- Install and commission WiMAX (PtMP / PtP) radio equipment on masts, buildings, and street furniture
- Install and terminate fibre infrastructure, including internal and external cabling
- Mount and align wireless radios (e.g. 5GHz / 60GHz where applicable) to design specifications
- Install customer premise equipment (CPE):
- Holiday homes / lodges
- Marina berths
- Park infrastructure (offices, facilities, CCTV, etc.)
- Install containment, brackets, poles, and mounting systems
Network Commissioning
- Perform signal alignment, optimisation, and testing of wireless links
- Conduct fibre testing (light levels, continuity, fault finding)
- Configure and activate devices (routers, radios, switches) following standard templates
- Validate service performance against expected throughput and latency
Maintenance & Fault Response
- Diagnose and resolve faults across wireless and fibre networks
- Replace or repair faulty equipment in live environments
- Support reactive maintenance within SLA targets
- Escalate complex issues to NOC / Technical Engineering teams
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Operate safely at height (masts, rooftops, towers) in line with regulations
- Ensure all installations meet H&S, quality, and compliance standards
- Complete risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) where required
- Maintain site documentation, photos, and as-built records
Customer & Site Engagement
- Act as the on-site representative of VFAST when working with:
- Park operators
- Site managers
- Third-party contractors
- Communicate clearly on installation progress, issues, and timelines
- Manage expectations in a professional and solutions-focused manner
Operational Excellence
- Follow standardised build designs, installation packs, and engineering processes
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying:
- Installation efficiencies
- Common faults / repeat issues
- Opportunities for standardisation and automation
- Ensure accurate job updates, closure notes, and reporting
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience in wireless network installation (PtP / PtMP / WiMAX / WISP environments)
- Experience with fibre installation and basic termination/testing
- Ability to work at height and in outdoor environments
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals (IP, routing, wireless principles)
Desirable
- Experience in holiday parks, marina, or multi-dwelling deployments
- Familiarity with vendors such as MikroTik, Ubiquiti
- Fibre splicing and advanced testing experience
- Knowledge of structured cabling standards
