Purpose of the role:
This role delivers an outstanding front-of-house experience by welcoming visitors, managing venue entry, and supporting both event-based and bar operations in the Howard Assembly Room. Responsibilities include sales operations such as ice creams, snacks, refreshments on bars, merchandise, and programmes, as well as assisting patrons throughout their visit. Working collaboratively with management, Security, and Box Office teams, the role ensures the smooth and safe running of events and the day-to-day operation of the venue’s public bar, particularly during evenings and weekends as these are essential to our operation, to maximise visitor satisfaction and operational efficiency. This role plays an essential part in shaping a vibrant, welcoming arts venue in the heart of Leeds.
Key accountabilities:
- Create a warm welcome and engage with visitors, ensuring they feel valued and appropriately supported throughout their visit to the Howard Assembly Room.
- Respond to visitor queries promptly, providing clear, accurate, and helpful information.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the venue, events, and products to confidently inform visitors and recommend additional services where appropriate.
- Proactively promote and sell food, beverages, merchandise, and programmes using an engaging approach that encourages additional purchases.
- Understand sales targets, actively working to meet and exceed them through driving secondary spend per head with confident upselling of drinks and merchandise.
- Operate the bar efficiently, including serving draught drinks and coffee, maintaining stock control and date rotation.
- Identify and address risks to visitors and staff about health, safety, and security, ensuring compliance with company Risk Management policies.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure all tasks are completed effectively.
- Take initiative by identifying and completing tasks that support the smooth running of the venue.
- Completing any other reasonable duties requested by the Duty Manager on shift.
