Purpose of the role:

This role is required to maintain the standards of professional output expected of a Chorister operating within a leading UK arts organisation. It may also perform in solo roles and participate in educational project work and training delivery.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To sing and perform as a member of the chorus for opera and concert performances and rehearsals, including acting and dancing and movement of minor scenery/props and furniture.
  • To undertake chorus roles / covers and other small principal roles.
  • To prepare/learn music as necessary and appropriate.
  • To maintain his/her voice to an optimum professional standard.
  • To participate in recordings and relays of rehearsals and/or performances.
  • To wear costume, wigs and make-up when and as directed at stage rehearsals and performances. To wear rehearsal/practice costumes as required at production rehearsals.
  • To undertake wardrobe and wig calls as required.
  • To participate in appraisals and re-auditions.
  • To tour in the UK and abroad as required (subject to the terms and conditions of the House Agreement.
  • Perform related duties or projects as assigned / directed.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable linguistic ability in English, French, German, Italian.

Experience / skills required:

  • Substantial professional performing experience, in a chorus and solo capacity.

Terms and Conditions:

Contract type: Full-time, permanent

Salary: £35,443 per annum

Hours of work: 33-35 week (120 hours in 13, 4 week blocks)

Holiday entitlement: 33 days inclusive of 8 statutory holidays, per annum

Pension: Opera North will automatically enrol you into the company pension scheme upon

appointment and after 3 months’ service will contribute equivalent to 5.5% of your basic pay, should you meet the current legislative criteria. You will be required to make a personal contribution of 2.5% of your basic pay. We reserve the right to make future changes to our pension arrangements.
