ABOUT THE ROLE
The Merchandise Planner leads category strategy and drives strong commercial outcomes across assigned departments, while maintaining a holistic view of how each category contributes to MESHKI’s overall business performance. Combining advanced forecasting, financial planning and inventory management with strong cross-functional leadership, this role optimises sales, margin and stock efficiency, influences key business decisions and supports the development of junior planners.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
- Own financial planning for assigned categories, delivering sales, margin and profit targets through robust forecasting.
- Develop and manage open-to-buy budgets, allocation plans and intake strategies across categories.
- Partner with Design and Buying to build option plans, buy frameworks and commercially balanced assortments.
- Apply strong product instinct and commercial judgement to decisions around rebuys, recolouring and option optimisation.
- Leverage deep understanding of the MESHKI customer, brand and global markets (AU, US, EU, ROW) to inform planning decisions.
- Lead in-season trading through disciplined OTB management, inventory flow, markdowns and promotional strategies.
- Analyse performance and demand signals to proactively identify risk and opportunity, protecting margin and stock health.
- Prepare and present insightful in-season and post-season analysis, translating data into clear commercial actions.
- Act as a trusted commercial partner to Buying, Design, Finance, E-Commerce and Marketing stakeholders.
- Lead, coach and develop junior planners, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture aligned with MESHKI’s values.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING:
- 2+ years’ experience as a Merchandise Planner already seeking broader category ownership.
- Strong experience in womenswear (highly desirable).
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, or a related field.
- Proven understanding of the Australian market, with exposure to US and/or European markets.
- Highly commercial, with the ability to connect product decisions to customer behaviour and financial outcomes.
- Confident in managing OTB, WSSI, and MSSI, with margin, AUC, and inventory efficiency in mind.
- Thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and can manage multiple priorities with clarity and confidence.
- Advanced analytical and numerical capability with strong Excel skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- High attention to detail paired with strong commercial foresight.
