The Role of Apprentice Plant Fitter:

We are thrilled to share an exciting opportunity to join our Plant Operations Team as an Apprentice Plant Fitter. This apprenticeship will provide hands-on experience, training, and support to help you achieve a Modern Apprenticeship (SCQF Level 6) in Engineering /Plant Maintenance. The 4 year apprenticeship is designed to give you the essential skills and knowledge required to become a skilled plant fitter while working with various plant machinery and equipment. You will also attend college to complete the required theoretical components of the apprenticeship, ensuring you gain a well-rounded understanding of plant fitting, as specified by CITB guidelines. Key learning/job tasks include:

Mechanical & Electrical Plant Maintenance:

  • Gain practical experience in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of various plant equipment and machinery.
  • Learn how to diagnose faults, identify issues, and carry out necessary repairs or maintenance on plant machinery.
  • Work alongside experienced fitters to assist in the disassembly, repair, and reassembly of plant machinery.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with a team of experienced Fitters, learning from their knowledge and expertise.
  • Contribute to the success of the team by assisting in daily tasks and projects.
  • Learn how to collaborate effectively with other departments to ensure the smooth operation of plant equipment.

Customer Service & Communication:

  • Develop communication skills to interact with customers, team members, and suppliers regarding service needs.
  • Learn how to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats, ensuring accurate updates on maintenance work and issues.
  • Assist in handling service requests and helping customers with plant equipment-related queries.

Technical Skills Development:

  • Receive hands-on training to gain competence in plant fitting, including diagnostics, repair, and servicing.
  • Learn how to use and maintain tools, machinery, and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Gain experience working with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Work with a variety of plant and equipment, including excavators, cranes, forklifts, and other heavy machinery.

College Attendance & Study:

  • Attend CITB designated college as part of your apprenticeship program, following the curriculum set out by CITB, to gain the necessary theoretical and technical knowledge
  • Complete coursework and exams as part of your SCQF Level 6 qualification in Engineering or Plant Maintenance.
  • Apply your classroom learning to real-world situations as you gain hands-on experience on the job.

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Receive training on health and safety regulations specific to the plant fitting and engineering sectors.
  • Learn how to apply safety procedures when working with plant equipment and machinery to prevent accidents.
  • Understand how to comply with environmental and regulatory requirements in the handling and maintenance of machinery.

Record-Keeping and Documentation:

  • Learn how to keep accurate records of maintenance and repair work.
  • Assist in maintaining up-to-date documentation, including parts, maintenance logs, and service history.
  • Support in managing both electronic and manual records in line with company procedures.
