Welders are required to plan, prepare and undertake relevant vessel repair and fabrication projects to agreed timescales. To produce welded work to the quality appropriate to their employed skill and testing level.
During their daily duties they would be required to fit, tack and weld various plates, pipes, beams, channels and other steelwork. These welding operations would be part of the fabrication process in the building of pipework, frames, handrails, large structures such as tanks, frames, on and offshore modules as well as vessel mobilisation projects and structural repairs to vessels.
Welders should ideally possess an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or similar welding apprenticeship qualification or at least 5 years trade experience in a similar position or industry.
Job specific skills and requirements would include but not be limited to
· reading and interpreting technical drawings,
· following the relevant issued welding procedures, which are on display in the fabrication workshop and available from the QHSE Office,
· assisting in the marking and cutting of the plate and pipe for fabrication projects
· operating equipment such as welding plants, mechanical saws, gas burners, overhead cranes, forklifts, MEWP,
· identify their work with the issued welder ID No. i.e. DM XX,
· ensuring all work is marked as work progresses, on completion of the task or at the end of the day’s work,
· ensuring all welding areas have been cleaned of Slag and spatter and are ready for Inspection and /or ND Testing,
· dressing and shaping of cut steel and pipes using grinders and other such vibratory machinery prior to welding.
Welders have a standard 39-hour week, but overtime and weekend work are often available. They can be working on vessels or in large workshops, indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions.
Their working environment can be noisy and hot, with some work being carried out at height on scaffolding or MEWP. Protective equipment such as workshop local exhaust ventilation, air-fed welding hood, face masks, boots, coveralls, hard hat, gloves, glasses/goggles, screens/visors and hearing protection must be worn while carrying out their working duties.
They will assist in the implementation of the quality systems by following the Company Policies and Procedures and help to implement and maintain health, safety and environmental standards, working safely at all times to ensure the health and wellbeing of themselves and their fellow workers.
Tasks
· working to the highest expected standards at all times while carrying out work tasks,
· report directly to the operations manager, trade foremen and site supervisors on the progress of work tasks,
· working alongside and cooperating with specialists and sub-contractors depending on work task requirements,
· following all permit to work requirements,
· following all site personal protective equipment/respiratory protective equipment requirements,
· mentoring and assisting in the training and development of all trade apprentices,
· maintaining good customer relations,
· ensure that all work areas are kept clean and tidy,
· attending any required company and industry training courses,
· following all company policies, procedures, emergency procedures, risk assessments and method statements,
· assisting in the writing of specific risk assessment, method statements,
· participating in work task toolbox talks,
· attending time out for safety meetings to discuss any safety issues, changes to procedures or legislation etc.
· ensuring that quality standards are met in accordance with company policies,
· attending company occupation health checks and complying with any subsequent requirements of those checks,
· following and promoting a safe working culture and the company ‘stop the job policy’ to ensure they and all fellow workers are aware of the companies safe working practices,
· to help achieve the zero-accident rate objective by following, promoting and implementing company safe working practices,
· to help achieve the zero waste to landfill objective by following, promoting and implementing company environmental policies
· assisting in the implementation and upkeep of all company ISO standards
