Role Overview:

The Commercial Trainee supports the commercial and financial management of social housing projects, assisting with cost control, procurement, and contract administration. This role is ideal for someone starting a career in quantity surveying or commercial management within the housing or construction sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports.
  • Support procurement processes, including obtaining quotes and liaising with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Help monitor project costs and identify any variances against budgets
  • Assist with valuations, invoices, and payment applications
  • Maintain accurate financial and contractual records
  • Support the administration of contracts and ensure compliance with policies and regulations
  • Work closely with project managers, site teams, and finance departments
  • Contribute to value engineering and cost-saving initiatives
  • Attend site visits and meetings to gain practical project insight

You Will Need:

  • Educated to A-level or equivalent (degree or studying towards degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar is desirable)
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Attention to detail and good organisational ability
  • Willingness to learn and develop within a commercial role
